Guidelines for Writing & Revising Academic Papers Effectively

Writing involves processes whereby students need to gather more information in their topics to deliver quality work. In writing, the work of one student needs not to have similarities with the work of another. There are steps that students need to follow to deliver quality paperwork.

While writing a paper requires one to follow several steps, it may also not be wrong to jump from one step to another. We have compiled some steps to guide students to get my paper done effectively.

1. Be knowledgeable of your assignment

  • Get ready: know the purpose of writing your assignment. A student should understand the reason for them to do their assignment.
  • Relate your assignment to your classwork. Understanding your assignment’s relationship to your classwork would help a student deliver quality work to their lecturers.
  • Understand the requirement needed to complete your paper to realize the best work as a student.
  • Go through your course materials and get knowledge about all the requirements for your topic.

2. Brainstorm

  • Identify the topic of your paper from the instructions given in your assignment. A student should think broadly and then choose a topic in which they would write about.
  • Think of what you are conversant with, then find other more ideas to support your work.
  • The students should ask themselves some questions about their topics, such as when, where, how, and why they are taking the topic.

3. Explore if you need to

  • Learn about a topic by doing some Google search; watch some YouTube videos related to your topic.
  • Read an article in Wikipedia that relates to your topic. Wikipedia would be the best point to start on obtaining basic knowledge of a topic, and it also provides some references.
  • Find answers to the questions that you are researching.

A student should use their university library so that they can get resourceful information about your topic.

4. Outline

  • Organize and review information
  • Examine whatever information you find
  • Know the main points to prove and the message to deliver.
  • Support your important points by finding shreds of evidence.

A student or any other writer should structure your points in a way that would make sense.

5. Draft

It would be best if you did not worry about your work is perfect. Just write it down on paper:

  1. Write an introduction that will grab your readers’ attention, stating and explaining the main points of your paper.
  2. Have the body written in the form of paragraphs which would support the thesis statement logically.
  3. Restructure the information that you acquire into comfortable words that you would easily understand.
  4. Write a conclusion that summarizes the critical points of your work.

A student should write till they summarize all the information that they wished to relay.

6. Revise

How could you improve it? Revise your written work.

  • Make your work to be sensible by rearranging sentences or paragraphs too.
  • Eliminate any information that is out of topic or that which is unnecessary.
  • Research more if you feel that your points lack enough evidence.

7. Correct and proofread

  • Use spell check
  • Readout your work aloud to make sure it flows out smoothly.
  • Correct errors such as punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

Conclusion

Complete all your sentences by replacing unclear work, then format your work in APA style as you cite your research in your paragraphs.
