November 21, 2014- During the month of November, the students, faculty, staff and PTO from Rheems Elementary School held their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Students were encouraged to bring in nonperishable food items for the holiday including gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pudding. The school faculty and PTO donated turkeys. In total, eleven families in need from the Rheems community will receive the Turkeys and all the trimmings for a delicious Thanksgiving meal. In addition, because the food drive was such a resounding success, the school had many additional items that were donated to the school district’s social services department, which will distribute them throughout the community to additional families in need.

Jacques Viau, principal of Rheems Elementary School, said the food drive was a perfect example of how the Rheems TEAM came together to help others in need.

“We have stressed to the students that they are part of a team and they have embraced that notion in many ways,” Viau said. “In the spirit of giving thanks we all came together, students and staff, to help those in need through this successful food drive.”
