September 26, 2014- Elizabethtown Area High School’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are holding benefits for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County (BBBS) respectively.

The boys’ team has partnered with Manheim Central in the second annual Cancer Awareness Benefit Game. Leading up to the game, which is set for Oct. 3 at Manheim Central High School, the teams sold t-shirts with all the proceeds going to LLS. The Bears sold orange cancer awareness t-shirts while the Barons sold lime green. The match will kickoff at 7 p.m.

Both teams encourage their supporters to wear their t-shirts to the match to recognize and honor loved ones lost and those currently fighting the battle with Leukemia or Lymphoma. In cooperation with the Manheim Central School District, the gate fee will be waived for any person attending the game wearing their cancer awareness t-shirt.

Donations will also be accepted at the gate with all proceeds going to LLS or a donation can be made online by visiting http://cpa.sy.llsevent.org/ElizabethtownAreaVaristySoccerTeam. Out.”

“The players are excited about the event and are looking to build upon last year’s successful inaugural campaign,” said James Sostack, head varsity soccer coach for Elizabethtown Area High School. “We are appreciative of the partnership with Manheim Central and the administrations of both districts in supporting such a great event and fundraising effort.”

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

The girls’ team wanted to recognize the work of BBBS in our community. As such, they too sold t-shirts with all proceeds going to the organization. The t-shirts are purple with the BBBS tagline “Start Something Big” on the front.

Lady Bears supporters are encouraged to wear their “BIG” t-shirts to the Oct. 4 showdown with the Lady Barons of Manheim Central for a “Purple Out.” The junior varsity game will begin at 12 p.m. while the varsity match will start at 2 p.m. Both games will be held at Jane Hoover Field in Elizabethtown. Fans attending the soccer games will have free admission and the junior high team will be collecting donations for this wonderful cause.

The BBBS mission is to help children realize their potential and build their futures which helps strengthen communities. If you are interested in becoming a “Big” in our community or would like additional information about BBBS please contact lsmith@bbbslancaster.org
