May 22, 2013—Elizabethtown Area High School students Rebecca Amsbaugh, Alice Greider, Courtney Lippold, and Nicholas Weidman were recently recognized at a small awards ceremony as the Elizabethtown Optimist Club’s 2013 Unsung Heroes. The awards recognized the students for quietly making an impact at their school and in the community. Optimist Club members Mike Sweger and Ray Livingston presented the students with engraved plaques at the ceremony.

The award-winning students were nominated for the awards by their teachers based on the following criteria: a student who supports school-related programs either as a member or a “support” person; and/or is a member of an Elizabethtown community program who has given time and energy supporting the Elizabethtown area; and/or is a well rounded individual.

The Elizabethtown Optimist Club is a local service organization that supports youth activities in the community. In addition to the Unsung Hero program, the club has sponsored a local junior high wrestling tournament, academic scholarships for graduating seniors, holiday parties for families in need, and an essay contest at the middle school.
