May 23, 2012—Elizabethtown Area High School’s spring production of 42nd landed two awards at the 2012 Hershey Theater Apollo Awards. The cast won for Outstanding Musical Number for We’re in the Money and the orchestra won for Outstanding Pit Orchestra. The awards were given for outstanding achievement by local high school students in their musical and play productions.
In addition to the two awards won for 42nd Street, Lauren Hayden was nominated for Best Featured Actress for her role as Annie in the spring musical. The school’s fall play received three nominations including Best Play (45 Seconds from Broadway), Best Actor (Noah Mitchell), and Best Featured Actress (Kat Allison).
High schools in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon, and Perry counties were eligible to receive nominations. The Elizabethtown Area School District was also invited to participate due to its proximity to Hershey itself. Four independent evaluators representing the Hershey Theater Apollo Awards attended each school’s production to gather the list of nominees. The awards focus solely on the performances of the young people, honoring their acting, singing, and dancing abilities.
