EAHS To Present Tap Dancing Musical – 42nd Street

Ruby Keeler in Film VersionJanuary 30, 2012— Elizabethtown Area High School will present the tap dancing musical extravaganza 42nd Street on March 1, 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.  There will also be a 1 p.m. matinee on March 3.

The production features 40 students onstage who have been learning to tap dance since September.  Through a generous grant from the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation, Danny Aldous of e-Dance Center has been serving as an artist-in-residence at the school.  From September through November, Aldous taught tap dancing workshops to any student or staff member who was interested in learning to dance.  Approximately 70 students in total took classes throughout the three-month time period.

EAHS students have been rehearsing the musical, 42nd Street since November and using the skills taught by Aldous in the workshop sessions.  The show features such popular musical numbers as We’re in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo and the title song, 42nd Street.  Leading the cast are tenth graders Alexis Evans and Nick Brown in the roles of Peggy Sawyer and Billy Lawlor.  Also featured in the cast are eleventh grader A.J. Peterson as Julian Marsh and senior Laura Shenk as Dorothy Brock.

Tickets for the production will go on sale Thursday, February 2 from 3-5 p.m. in the lobby of the high school.  The box office will be then be open Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. throughout the month of February.  Both reserved tickets and general admission tickets to the production will be on sale.  Prices vary for adults, students and senior citizens.  For more information contact the Elizabethtown Area High School office at 367-1533.
