A local newspaper’s personal ad with a very strange message is of concern and curiosity for the visitors at the Victorian manner of Miss Letitia Blacklock as Elizabethtown College Theatre performs Agatha Christie’s “A Murder is Announced.” Even more concerned is homeowner Miss Blacklock because, according the ad, a murder is to occur … tonight! March Students of the Month Named

March 19, 2014- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Alexis Ruhl and Craig Miller were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for March. Alexis and Craig were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities. Alexis is the daughter of Thomas Ruhl of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society and has earned numerous underclassmen awards in the areas of biology, algebra, and chemistry.  Elizabethtown Area Youth Soccer Program  GEARS is sponsoring the Elizabethtown Area Youth Soccer Program.  This program is designed to be instructional as well as provide a chance to participate in low-competitive soccer games.  Both boys and girls in grades 1-5 are invited to register and join in the fun.              The program will operate on Saturdays, Saturdays, April 12-May 31 (no 5/24) from 9-10:30 a.m.  Participants will play on the Fairview Elementary Soccer Fields, 8853 Elizabethtown Road, Elizabethtown. From Chronicling Elizabethtown A few months ago, some borough staff members saw a presentation of a walkability audit of another Lancaster County community. Upon asking about it, they soon had an offer to do a walkability audit here in Elizabethtown. It’s scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Etown Beans and Brews at March Second Friday

Second Friday for March is this Friday the 14th.  The second annual Beans and Brews will be held in conjunction with the Second Friday event.   Sample home-brewed beers for a 10 dollar registration fee and sample home made chili  for a 10 dollar fee also . Both can be sampled for a registration fee of 16 dollars.  This is a  beer and chili competition.  The event takes place behind the Elizabethtown Library (10 South Market Street) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Registrations are limited.  Other Second Friday events will also be held.  Register here.

Local students win prizes in the Harrisburg Senators Bookmark Contest

March 12, 2014- Bear Creek School fourth grader Sophia Mize was named grand champion in the Harrisburg Senators 2014 Hit the Books Bookmark Contest. Each year, the minor league baseball team runs the contest to promote reading. This year’s program included designs from 500 students from 85 local schools. The Senators selected only five entries as finalists and the grand champion was selected from this distinguished group. As grand champion, Mize’s bookmark will be distributed to more than 25,000 students in the Commonwealth.
