EASD recognized with Keystone Awards for academic excellence

January 27, 2011—Elizabethtown Area School District is pleased to announce that all five of its elementary schools, along with both the middle and high schools, have been honored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education with 2010 Keystone Achievement Awards. This prestigious recognition program celebrated E-town’s outstanding academic performance on critical state benchmarks.

Carl J. Strikwerda, Ph.D., was named president-elect of Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa., on Jan. 11, 2011. After working collaboratively for a month alongside current Elizabethtown College President Theodore E. Long, Strikwerda will begin his tenure Aug. 1, 2011, when he assumes leadership of the private, co-educational institution.

Currently, Strikwerda is dean of the faculty of arts and sciences at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. In this role, he oversees 378 faculty, 21 departments and 14 interdisciplinary programs that serve 5,600 students, including 500 graduate students in six doctoral and 11 master’s degree programs.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL DISTRICT HEARING: District To Hold Hearing On Possible Closing Of Fairview Elementary School

January 3, 2011— On Tuesday, January 11, 2011, the Elizabethtown Area School District Board of Education will host a public hearing to discuss its proposal to permanently close Fairview Elementary School at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. The purpose of the hearing is to consider and receive public comment from constituents of the District. The hearing, which is open to the public, will be held in the Elizabethtown Area Middle School auditorium beginning at 8:00 p.m.

November 8, 2010— Courtney Orban and Cassidy Cheddar, both members of Elizabethtown Area High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter, earned gold medals at the National FFA Career Development Event in Indianapolis, IN.

Elizabethtown Area Schools Schedules Town Hall Meeting

October 7, 2010— Elizabethtown Area School District will hold its first Town Hall Meeting of the school year on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Bainbridge Elementary School. Parent Nights scheduled at EASD–Important Dates

At the beginning of each school year, Elizabethtown Area School District holds a “Parent Night” at each of its school buildings. Parents are encouraged to attend this important event at their child’s respective building. Each parent night not only gives parents a chance to meet their child’s teachers and staff, but also provides a time for parents to get valuable information they will need to make the school year a success. Call for Submissions (Small Neighborhood Profiles)

The Elizabethtown Journal is announcing a request for story submissions.  The request is being made to all Elizabethtown Journal readers. This request is for small area profiles like the the “Orange Street Neighborhood” and the “College Avenue Corridor” that appear on this page.  These profiles can be of your neighborhood, other neighborhoods, or commercial or retail areas.  The small areas profiles use a photo essay model, but the author is free to choose the number of photos in his/her essay.  The model for the two existing stories is one that is simple and easy to follow, but the author can[Read more...]
