November 20, 2014- Ten families in need in the Bainbridge community were provided with food baskets stocked full with many of the items needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal courtesy of Bainbridge Elementary School. The annual food drive has become a tradition at the school and was once again enthusiastically supported by the school’s students, faculty, and staff.

The food drive was incorporated into the school’s C.U.B.S. curriculum under the topic: The Power of Giving. In C.U.B.S. class, the students learned about the power of giving through The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Each class made leaves for the school’s Giving Tree being displayed near the library. On the leaves, students gave examples of how they can spread happiness by giving to others (hugs, handshakes, sharing, including others, donations, etc.). As a school community, the students collected the food and shared it with those families who need it.

Greg Kiehl, principal of Bainbridge Elementary School was impressed by the school’s generosity.

“The food drive for the holiday season is linked to our CUBS curriculum,” said Kiehl. “Within the CUBS curriculum, we teach students the importance of giving to help those less fortunate within our community. The success of our collection is indicative of how generous our students and their families are and the students should be very proud of themselves.”
