November 20, 2012- An amazing 1,784 canned food items were donated by Mill Road Elementary School’s students, faculty, and staff as part of a school-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by the PTO. Held Nov. 5-15, the food drive will benefit numerous families in need at the school as well as the Elizabethtown Food Pantry. During the ten-day drive, the students had fun keeping track of the school’s progress by lining up the donated non-perishable food items in the hallway, much like a thermometer.

“The Mill Road PTO and faculty would like to thank the students and families at Mill Road Elementary School for the food donations,” said Christina Tuell, third grade teacher at the school. “Their generosity will help families in our community to have a joyful holiday season.”

Much like Mill Road’s successful Thanksgiving Food Drive, Bainbridge Elementary School also collected items for the holiday. Weaved into the school’s C.U.B.S. (Children Understanding and Building Skills) Curriculum, the students and staff brought in food and non-food items to make Thanksgiving gift baskets to help families in the Bainbridge community. The food drive’s theme was Community Connections.

“I am amazed at the generous, giving spirit of our school,” said Amy Nelson, school counselor. “We will be able to help numerous families in Bainbridge during the holidays.”
