Experience the excitement of glass blowing! Through this three hour “blow your own” session, participants will work with a resident glass artist to create an ornament, flower, or paperweight. You will choose the shape, color, size and style. The participants will be directly involved in the process to create a one of a kind piece of art glass. Also, a quality museum gallery is on site to experience much more art and excitement. Sessions will be held at Through the Fire Studios at 452 Locust Street in Columbia. Any age. Class is on Saturday, June 2, June 16, July 7, July 21, August 4 or August 18 at either 10 am or 1 pm. Fee is $50 for members ($57 non-members. Dahn Yoga
This 10-week class will help you channel your energy more efficiently, breathe more deeply, and become stronger and more flexible. The class combines breathing and relaxation techniques, physical exercise, yoga, stretching, kigong, visualization and meditation. Learn how to shift your focus from outside to within yourself. Through breathing postures, you will gather energy in your core, leaving you feeling strong, calm, and fresh. Bring your own mat or towel. Cindy Forry, Dahn Yoga Master, will be instructing. Ages 14+. Class is on Mondays, June 4-August 6, from 7-8:15 pm at the Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel (One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown). Fee is $60 for GEARS members ($67 for non-members). Zumba Gold
A toned-down version of Zumba! A fun aerobics-type class, part dance and part fitness, based primarily on Latin American & International style music. Geared to the deconditioned person/beginner exerciser and the active older adult. For those that may be hesitant to go “full-out” for whatever reason, Zumba Gold is the way to go! Judy McMillen is a licensed Zumba Gold Instructor. Class is on Mondays, June 4-July 23, from 6-6:45 pm at the Masonic Village Assembly Room (One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown) with a fee of $45 for members ($52 non-members. Medicare Madness
The Basics of Medicare Explained.Are you age 64 or older? If so, this class will explain the Medicare Open Enrollment process, outline traditional Medicare Parts A, B, C and D, describe the difference between a Medicare Supplemental (Medi-gap) and a Medicare Advantage Plan and provide important definitions. Additionally, we will walk through how to find a plan that fits your needs and how to obtain free assistance through the federal and state government. Jonathan Ebersole is a Human Resource Benefits Specialist with over five years of experience working with Medicare and health benefit plans. He has a Masters in Business Administration from Millersville University. Class is on Wednesday, June 6 from 6-8 pm in the GEARS Recreation Room #1 (600 East High Street, Elizabethtown). Canine Classes
Canine Fast Track Basic Obedience is geared toward the canine team (dog/owner) for learning basic obedience (sit down, hold, stay, walking on a leash, coming when called, etc.), problem solving (barking, house training, play biting, etc.) and tricks! Focus will be on basic commands with positive reinforcement. Class is on Tuesdays, June 5-26 from 7-8 pm.
Advanced Canine Fast Track will concentrate on skills learned in the beginner class and work on advancing toward your Canine Good Citizen (CGC) as recognized by the AKC. The CGC test will be offered to teams that are ready. The class will work on distractions of every day life and problem solving. Class is on Tuesdays, June 5-26 from 8-9 pm.
The instructor, Deb Haldeman, has 18 years of training experience in obedience, confirmation and therapy. Materials needed for both class are a six-foot leash (fabric or leather), dog treats, proof of vaccinations. Recommend that dog receives Kennel Cough Vaccine. Handlers must be 16 years and older. Fee is $50 for GEARS members and $56 for non-members. All classes will take place at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, (900 East High Street, Elizabethtown).
