April 30, 2012— The Bear Creek School student orchestra will perform its annual spring concert on May 10 at 7 p.m. in the school’s multipurpose room. The concert is free and open to the public. Performing during the night of music will be the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade advanced orchestra ensembles, as well as the fourth through sixth grade beginning orchestra ensemble.
The fourth through sixth grade beginning orchestra ensemble will play pieces by Robert Woods, including Evening Scenes. The fourth grade advanced orchestra will play Cabbage Countdown, which includes variation on the fiddle tune Boil Them Cabbage Down, Fiddlin’ Favorites by Edmund Siennicki and Candlelight Waltz by Bruce Chase as well as another piece that the students have chosen by straw vote. The fifth and sixth grade advanced orchestra ensembles will perform a mellow rendition of Georgia On My Mind by Hoagy Carmichael, Calypso by Martin Norgaard, an energetic Perpetual Motion by Carrie Gruselle, and a final, rousing number, The Wild Western Frontier.
A special addition to the evening will be a solo performance by Sean Brown, a sixth grader, playing Czardas by V. Monti.
Mrs. Jill Placeway, the string specialist at Bear Creek School, will be directing the ensembles.
