April 19, 2012— Six Elizabethtown Area High School students were recently honored for their work in the 2012 Lancaster County Young Artists competition. The competition was for local secondary school students and recognized the aspiring artists for their outstanding work. Award-winning students received gold, silver, or exhibition awards for their entries.
Leading the way was tenth grader Jakia Nur, who won three awards – a gold, a silver, and an exhibition – all in the sculpture category. Ninth grader Abigail Slack also earned multiple awards winning a silver award in the 2-D design category and an exhibition award in the sculpture category. Twelfth grader Rachel Gallucci and tenth grader Maria Wilson won exhibition awards for their entries in the photography category while tenth grader Max Greider and ninth grader Alea Vera earned exhibition awards in the sculpture category.
Nur’s and Slack’s gold and silver key entries were displayed at The Ware Center on the campus of Millersville University in early March alongside the other gold and silver award-winners from Lancaster County schools. The exhibition award-winning entries were on display at the Mulberry Art Studios, also in early March. Kevin Goss and Kay Reist oversee the high school’s art department.
