November 22, 2011— Elizabethtown Dental Associates recently donated $30,000 to support students and faculty of the Elizabethtown Area School District. The funds, raised through Elizabethtown Dental’s SMILES FOR LIFE initiative, will be used to fund innovative programs in the classroom, as well as go toward the Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future $3,700,000 Capital Campaign. The funds were contributed to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation, which provides supplemental resources that enrich and enhance teaching and learning in the Elizabethtown Area School District.

At a small check ceremony, Dr. Edward White of Elizabethtown Dental Associates presented a check to school superintendent and Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation board member Michele Balliet, and capital campaign chairperson Kevin Dolan. Accompanying Dr. White were dental hygienists Nancy Sweigart and Caitlin Mueller.

Elizabethtown Dental’s four-month SMILES FOR LIFE program offered discounted teeth whitening services with 100% of the proceeds going to the foundation. Over the past decade, Elizabethtown Dental Associates has given more than $256,000 to local charities through the SMILES FOR LIFE campaign. The proceeds of the SMILES FOR LIFE initiative were given to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation for support of its educational classroom grant program and ongoing capital campaign.

“This year’s SMILES FOR LIFE campaign was once again a huge success thanks in large part to the many community members who supported the initiative by having their teeth whitened,” said Dr. White. “Elizabethtown Dental is extremely pleased to present this donation to the foundation for use towards two of its worthwhile causes. We are delighted that the funds will be used locally to enrich the academic and athletic experiences for the students of Elizabethtown.”

As part of the SMILES FOR LIFE initiative, Elizabethtown Dental joined hundreds of dental practices throughout the U.S. And Canada to professionally whiten teeth to raise money for children’s organizations in their local communities and around the world. Participating dentists donated all of their time to whiten teeth during the SMILES FOR LIFE campaign. Together, they offered professional teeth whitening services at substantially reduced prices (donations) with 100% of the proceeds going to children’s charities.

Benefiting from Elizabethtown Dental’s generosity is the foundation’s Educational Classroom Grant Program, which was launch in February 2009. Funds awarded through the grant program support creative and innovative programs in the areas of academics, the arts and extra-curricular activities. Since the program’s inception, the foundation has awarded 32 grants totaling more than $40,000 to school district teachers.

In addition, a portion of the SMILES FOR LIFE funds will be used by the foundation in support of its Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future capital campaign. The cornerstone of the campaign is the goal of improving the athletic experience for all district students and to provide opportunities for a healthier, more active lifestyle to the greater Elizabethtown community. The campaign funds will be used to install synthetic turf on two fields (Thompson Field and Jane Hoover Field), repair the track and field complex, and replace the tennis courts. The much needed upgrades will help to ensure the fields are safe and accessible to not only district programs but also the many community groups like GEARS and the Boys Club that regularly use them.
