November 2, 2011— Elizabethtown Area Middle School held its annual Pathways Career Fair for eighth grade students on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The fair was designed to assist the students with selecting one of the four career pathways offered at the high school. While at the Fair, the students had a chance to visit 5-10 exhibitors from more than 30 local professionals.

While speaking to the representatives, the students learned about a variety of occupations, the necessary education/training for a specific career, responsibilities of a career, and the positive and negative aspects of specific careers. As a result of the Fair, the students are better able to select their courses at the high school based on their interests and possible career path.

The Pathways Program helps students focus their high school academics on an area of interest and possible career path. It promotes student exploration and serves as a way to organize instruction, academics, and work-based learning programs. It helps students see a connection between what they learn within the classroom and the skills they need for success in their adult lives and the work world.
