EASD to Present April Concert Series

March 30, 2011— During the month of April, Elizabethtown Area School District’s music department will perform two spring concerts to celebrate the season through the sound of music. All concerts are free and the public is invited to attend. Each show will be held in the high school auditorium. The schedule of performances is as follows:

Elizabethtown Area High School Band Concert, Saturday, Apr. 9 beginning at 7 p.m.
This concert will feature the Ursa Major (EAHS Jazz Band), the EAHS wind symphony, the Senior Trombone Quartet, and the EAHS Woodwind Quartet. The repertoire will be as follows:

  • Ursa Major -The Star-Spangled Banner, Someone to Watch Over Me and In the Mood
  • EAHS Wind Symphony – Under The Double Eagle, An American Elegy, Themes from “Green Bushes”, Malaguena, Salvation Is Created, Perthshire Majesty and Arabesque
  • Senior Trombone Quartet – On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss
  • EAHS Woodwind Quintet – Pachelbel’s Canon

Elizabethtown Area School District Elementary Choral Concert, Thursday, Apr. 28 beginning at 7 p.m.
This concert, titled Gotta Be Jazz, will feature fifth grade choral students from all five elementary schools. This unique review features an original theme song and five jazz classics such as “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got that Swing” and “My Favorite Things”.  The students will take the audience through a history of jazz in America using songs and stories about types of jazz like Dixieland, swing, bebop and jazz fusion.
