EAMS_CareerFairOctober 27, 2010— Elizabethtown Area Middle School recently held its annual Pathways Career Fair for eighth grade students. The fair was designed to assist the students with selecting one of the four career pathways offered at the high school. Roughly 300 eighth graders had the opportunity to circulate around the cafeteria to speak with over 35 local business leaders and ask them about their profession. Each pathway offered at the high school (Arts and Communication; Business and Finance; Health and Social Services; and Engineering, Science, and Technology) had multiple exhibitors on hand to share information about their respective field of interest.

As a result of the Fair, the eight graders are better prepared to select their high school courses later this school year. They have a better understanding of what local business leaders like and dislike about their jobs, as well as learned what schooling is need in order to be in that career. Elizabethtown Area High School’s Pathways

Program helps students focus their high school academics on an area of interest and possible career path. It promotes student exploration and serves as a way to organize instruction, academics, and work-based learning programs. It helps students see a connection between what they learn within the classroom and the skills they need for success in their adult lives and the work world.
