EAHS Announces First Marking Period Honor Roll

November 22, 2017- Elizabethtown Area High School principal Maura Hobson, as well as assistant principals Robert Crick, Kathleen Griffith, and Dr. Jason Potts, have announced the honor roll for the first marking period of the 2017-2018 school year. For students to achieve honor roll they are required to attain a minimum non-weighted grade point average (GPA) of 94% with no grade lower than 85%. A total of 424 students made the honor roll this marking period, which equates to roughly 35% of the student body in grades 9-12 having a GPA at or above 94%. Elizabethtown Area Middle School Delivers Food Baskets For Thanksgiving

 November 22, 2017- Fourteen local families from the greater-Elizabethtown area will enjoy Thanksgiving Food Baskets, compliments of Elizabethtown Area Middle School. The baskets contained all the ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner including a frozen turkey, vegetables, bread, yams, stuffing, gravy, and more. In addition to the holiday food items, the baskets contained other items the families could use for the entire day like coffee, pancake mix, syrup, cereal, and juice. AARP Driver Safety Refresher Program GEARS is hosting a 4-hour refresher course for people who have previously taken the eight-hour 55 Alive course.  This course will fulfill requirements for a continuing insurance discount from any auto insurer doing business in PA.  All participants MUST bring evidence of previous course completion to receive certificate. Participants must bring a valid PA driver’s license. Ages 50+. Class is on Wednesday, December 5 from 2-6 pm at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center (70 South Poplar Street, Elizabethtown). The Myth of Human Capital

We offer a bit of poetry to illustrate a point.  American public policy assumes that a person’s lot in life is based on merit and human capital.  That perspective must also assume near perfect freedom of movement throughout the class and opportunity structure.  This is the American promise that merit will offer its deserved rewards. This American ideology has taken its place in both domestic policy and foreign policy. In the former, we have sought solutions to poverty and inequality through offering (at least promising) capital, human capital, to the downtrodden.  Human capital in this scenario is synonymous with education. [Read more...]

Elizabethtown Area School District Honors Local Veterans

November 10, 2017- Elizabethtown Area School District saluted 47 local veterans during its tenth annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The program afforded school officials and high school students an opportunity to salute local veterans for their service to the country. It was also an opportunity for students to learn about the contributions that veterans have made and learn about the meaning of the day.
