Etown Community Cupboard recipient of Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs food drive

During the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB) Annual Conference in May, attendees donated more than 500 food and other non-perishable items to the Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown Borough, Lancaster County. The Boroughs Feeding Borough Families Community Food Drive was conceived by Elizabethtown Mayor Chuck Mummert. Mummert, who is also PSAB’s President, selected the theme of Service With Integrity as his year-long platform. As such, he wanted service to be a part of the conference agenda. EAHS Students To Participate In NASA’s ‘Cubes In Space’

  May 23, 2017- Five students from Elizabethtown Area High School will be participating in NASA’s Cubes in Space 2017 program. Cubes in Space is a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) competition that encourages students ages 11-18 to submit experiments for launch into space. The students were selected from more than 600 experiments submitted world-wide from 39 countries. Cubes in Space 2017 selected 160 experiments designed by students from Australia, Austria, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Serbia, the United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, the and the United States of America.   Yoga Classes Offered             Gentle/Beginner Yoga -  Learn fundamental yoga postures using safe alignment and modifications, slowly build strength, flexibility and balance. Elementary band concert May 25

May 18, 2017- The Bear Creek School band will take to the stage on Thursday, May 25 to present its annual spring concert. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bear Creek School and is free and open to the public. The concert will feature the fourth grade band, combined fifth and sixth grade band, and the Bear Creek School jazz band, as well as some smaller ensembles. 2017 Camp Ladybug  GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, are proud to sponsor this year’s Camp Ladybug. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 19-July 28 (excluding July 4) from 9 am to 12 noon at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion #5. Camp is free to GEARS members ($20 NM). This program is a camp for individuals that may be mentally delayed and/or physically challenged ages 6+. The purpose of Camp Ladybug is to provide a fun atmosphere where the campers may participate in socialization skills and recreational activities.   AARP Driver Safety Refresher Program GEARS is hosting a 4-hour refresher course for people who have previously taken the eight-hour 55 Alive course.  This course will fulfill requirements for a continuing insurance discount from any auto insurer doing business in PA.  All participants MUST bring evidence of previous course completion to receive certificate.  Participants must bring a valid PA driver’s license.  Ages 50+.  Class is on Tuesday, May 24 from 2-6 pm at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center (70 South Poplar Street, Elizabethtown).  Art Rettew will instruct the class. Teen drivers hear about the perils of distracted driving

May 4, 2017- Elizabethtown Area High School juniors and seniors heard a firsthand account of the tragic consequences that can come with distracted driving. In a school-wide assembly for the two grade levels, Karen Brezitski shared her deeply emotional story about the day her eight-year old son Owen was struck and killed by a distracted teen driver in March 2011. EASD chess team takes home team and individual awards

May 4, 2017- The Elizabethtown Area School District chess team placed fourth out of ten private and public schools in the Friendship Chess League Tournament. Now in its 43rd year, the Friendship Chess League is open to students in grades 5-8. The team played in four regular season matchers and two playoff matches to earn its fourth place finish. The team is comprised of students from the Bear Creek School and Elizabethtown Area Middle School chess clubs.
