Senior Center activities week of January 5

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Zumba Gold A toned-down version of Zumba! A fun aerobics-type class, part dance and part fitness, based primarily on Latin American & International style music. Geared to the deconditioned person/beginner exerciser and the active older adult. For those that may be hesitant to go “full-out” for whatever reason, Zumba Gold is the way to go! Judy McMillen is a licensed Zumba Gold Instructor. Class is on Mondays, Jan 9-Feb 27, from 6-6:45 pm at the Masonic Village Memorial Hall Gym (One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown) with a fee of $45 for members ($52 non-members. EAHS December students of the month named

December 16, 2016- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Madison Ebersole and Kent Taylor were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for December. Ebersole and Taylor were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities. Ebersole is the daughter of Jeff and Nancy Ebersole of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. She has won numerous awards for her work with EAHS’s Competition Science and Science Olympiad teams including earning the Armstrong World Industries, Inc. Giving Tree Program Supports Local Families

December 16, 2016- To help brighten the holidays for families in need, the Bear Creek School recently held its annual Holiday Giving Tree program. As part of this annual tradition, the school’s faculty, staff and students as well as community members purchased suggested gifts for families who could use the help this season of giving. In total, the program brought holiday cheer to 54 families from the Elizabethtown community. Coupled with the school’s Giving Tree, a food collection was also held before the holiday break gathering 1,334 items this year. The food collection will benefit local families in need. EAHS art students share t-shirt designs and a book with elementary students

  December 16, 2016- Elizabethtown Area High School students in the artistic crafts and fibers class made t-shirts based on classic children’s book such as Curious George, The Cat in the Hat, and The Hungry Monster and presented the t-shirts to second graders from Bainbridge Elementary School. As part of the program, each high school student was paired with an elementary student to read the book his or her t-shirt was based on. Aquacise        Do you want more energy, decreased body aches, stamina & flexibility, along with improved core balance? Then join us for a shallow water, heart healthy exercise class. Move at your own pace as your own fitness level regulates you though an hour of stretching, strengthening, endurance moves, balance building and cardio exercises. Water exercise makes it possible for everyone to get active and improve your fitness level. Bonnie Leibold will instruct. Ages 14+. Class is on Tuesdays & Thursdays, Jan 3-March 16, from 10:15-11 am.
