Messick’s 2016 light show

Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania – (November 29, 2016) Messick Farm Equipment, just off route 283 in Elizabethtown has announced that the start of its Christmas Light Show will take place on December 2, 2016. For the fourth year in a row, Messick’s is hosting their Christmas Light Show and will be collecting donations via the event to benefit four local charities. One hundred percent of the proceeds collected from the event will go to Paxton Street Ministries, Water Street Rescue Mission, Mennonite Disaster Service and Elizabethtown Community Cupboard. Bear Creek Students Participate in Music Festival

November 22, 2016- Eleven students from Bear Creek School were selected to participate in the 2016 PMEA Youth Honors Band Festival, which was held November 11-12 at Central Dauphin East Middle School. The festival was for fifth and sixth grade instrumental students and includes students from Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York Counties. Students who were selected from Bear Creek School, all sixth graders, were Kathryn Barraclough, Elyse Hayden, Elizabeth Kerin, Tori Straley, Emma Creason, Katie Foley, Kyle Billings, Ethan Cronin, Mathew Cruz, Quinn Billings, and Elijah Miller. EAMS Announces First Marking Period Honor Roll

  November 18, 2016- Dr. Nate Frank, principal of Elizabethtown Area Middle School, and Michael Pericci, assistant principal of Elizabethtown Area Middle School, announced the honor roll for the first marking period of the 2016-2017 school year. For students to achieve honor roll they are required to attain a 92% average overall with no grade lower than 83% in any subject area. A total of 231 students made the honor roll this marking period, which equates to roughly 37% of the student body in grades 7-8 having a GPA at or above 92%. EAMS students say YES! to their economic success

November 18, 2016- For a day, Elizabethtown Area Middle School traded in algebra, history, and life science for branding, logos, tag lines, slogans, and credit scores as part of Junior Achievement’s YES! program. YES! stands for Your Economic Success. The school-wide initiative aligned with the district’s Pathways program. The YES! curriculum consisted of a series of activities intended to help the students gain an appreciation for the importance that financial and career decisions will play in their lives as young adults. National Signing Day at Elizabethtown Area High School

November 18, 2016- Three Elizabethtown Area High School seniors recently accepted scholarships at the school’s National Signing Day event. Joining the athletes on their special day were their families, teammates, coaches, faculty members, and administration in the high school auditorium as each was introduced. The coaches read off the many accolades earned by each student-athlete and wished them success at the next level. Elizabethtown Area School District Honors Local Veterans

November 18, 2016- Elizabethtown Area School District saluted 27 local veterans during its ninth annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The program afforded school officials and high school students an opportunity to salute local veterans for their service to the country. It was also an opportunity for students to learn about the contributions that veterans have made and learn about the meaning of the day. Sisyphus Revisited: The Myth of the Conservative Ideology

The president-elect’s appeal has a few elements.  Supporters and voters (not always the same) do so for a couple of different reasons. The appeal upon which which he first capitalized and was exhibited in the primaries was to nativism and a return to tradition. It was an appeal to the conservative grand narrative. Those who hopped on the bandwagon for those reasons will most certainly find themselves disappointed, or at least not fully satisfied.  All winds blow in an opposing direction. Students Create Paper from Duckweed and Art from the Paper: Upcoming Art Exhibits Include Faculty Work and Collaborative Project of Ecology and Art Students

  ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Art and Ecology students worked together to create paper using the algae or duckweed present in Elizabethtown College’s Lake Placida. Students mixed the duckweed and cotton or abaca together, flipped the fibers onto a piece of felt and squeezed out additional water with a plant press to create a thick, speckled construction paper. The paper will be used by students to create an art project. Students will install their collaborative piece at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 in the Lyet Gallery.
