Senior Center activities week of August 25

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Sarah Uhl volunteers at abode services in Fremont, California

10 August 2016 (Elgin, IL) – Sarah Uhl of Elizabethtown, PA has recently undertaken a Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) assignment with ABODE Services in Fremont, CA.  Abode Services works in partnership with homeless people, affirming their personhood and offering opportunities for self-help, self-determination, and community interaction. Workers share the burdens of their clients while encouraging them to improve their own situation. Believing that addressing the problem of homelessness requires both personal and social effort, Abode also works with homeless persons to create new social systems or to change the old systems that allow homelessness to prevail. Aquacise Do you want more energy, decreased body aches, stamina & flexibility, along with improved core balance? Then join us for a shallow water, heart healthy exercise class. Move at your own pace as your own fitness level regulates you though an hour of stretching, strengthening, endurance moves, balance building and cardio exercises. Water exercise makes it possible for everyone to get active and improve your fitness level. Bonnie Leibold will instruct. Ages 14+. EAHS’s Solomon Heisey wins prestigious science fair

August 8, 2016- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Madison Ebersole and Solomon Heisey recently took part in the 2016 EnergyPath conference held at Penn State University. EnergyPath is the largest sustainable energy conference in the Mid-Atlantic region. The goal of the conference was to increase the knowledge of and passion for sustainable energy in the leaders of today and tomorrow. While at the conference, Ebersole and Heisey entered projects into the science fair that pertained to energy efficiency, energy conservation, renewable energy resources, and other related topics. Elizabethtown student makes Provost’s honor roll at Wyoming

Aug. 1, 2016 — The University of Wyoming lists three students from Pennsylvania on the 2016 spring semester Provost’s Honor Roll.  The Provost’s Honor Roll consists of undergraduates who have completed at least six but fewer than 12 hours with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the semester. Elizabethtown Farmer on Soil Health Center Panel at 2016 Empire Farm Days Event

Seneca Falls, NY. The New York State Working Group for Improved Soil Health has named its farmer-panelists for three Soil Health Center panel discussions at the August 9, 10, and 11 Empire Farm Days at Rodman Lott and Son Farms in Seneca Falls, NY. Jim Hershey of Hershey Farms in Elizabethtown, PA, will serve on the Tuesday, August 9 panel at 11:30 am addressing Interseeding and Cover Crops. USDA-NRCS Northeast Soil Health Specialist Paul Salon will moderate the panel.
