Smart Driver             GEARS Recreation offers Smart Driver driving class.  This Penn Dot approved course may entitle you to a discount on your auto insurance (check with your insurance company). This eight-hour classroom refresher course is designed specifically to meet the needs of older drivers.  Participants will sharpen driving skills, develop strategies for adjusting to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time, and learn about the effects of medication on driving performance.  Class is for motorists age 50 and older.             Class will take place Tuesday & Wednesday, October 20 & 21 from 2-6 pm.  The fee for the[Read more...]

Boyer in Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate (1990) and talks about a holistic approach to teaching. The Kreider Prize talk will be centered on how research, teaching, and service continuously reinforce one another and may result in promoting active learning.

September 22, 2015- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Erica Dinse and Brian McMinn were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for September. Dinse and McMinn were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities. Dinse is the daughter of Dr. Daniel and Ling Dinse of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Largest higher education-sited solar array in Pennsylvania begins at Elizabethtown College

From E-town NOW Elizabethtown College reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by securing a state grant to build what will be Pennsylvania’s largest higher education-sited solar array. In partnership with Radnor, Pennsylvania-based Community Energy, a nationally recognized renewable energy developer, the 2.6-megawatt DC ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system will create an educational living-learning laboratory right on campus. E-town plans to break ground with a ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. Led by College President Carl Strikwerda, the event will be attended by students and community members to highlight the team effort it has taken to move the project forward. Tennis Lessons              GEARS is offering Tennis Lessons for ages 4-16 this Summer.  All classes will meet on Tuesdays, October 6-November 3, at the Elizabethtown Area High School Tennis Courts (600 East High Street, Elizabethtown). Snowden Lecturer discusses research of Amish women Sept. 22

From E-town NOW While researching Deitsch, the language spoken by the Amish, Karen Johnson-Weiner discovered a new research interest – the lives of Amish women. She isn’t exploring how they are different from mainstream women nor how they are the same but simply how they are and who they are. “I began my work with interest in their language,” said Johnson-Weiner, the 2015 Snowden Fellow at Elizabethtown College’s Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. “I interviewed teachers; most of their teachers are women.
