Red Rose Council of the Blind to meet

Red Rose Council of the Blind, a chapter of the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind, will meet on Monday, July 13th from 4 to 6 PM at VisionCorps, 244 N. Queen St. in Lancaster.  The group’s goal is to encourage and assist people who are blind or vision impaired in seeking independence through employment, the learning of blindness skills, personal and social adjustment, and making significant contributions to society at large.  Persons with vision loss along with family members and friends are invited to attend.  For information, call John Horst 717-367-6346.  

Londonderry Township to Celebrate Independence Day with Fireworks, The Bainbridge Band & Parrotbeach

Londonderry Twp. (June 17, 2015) -  On Saturday, July 4, 2015 Londonderry Township will present the 7th Annual “Stars & Stripes Salute” at Sunset Park with the festivities getting underway at 7:00pm. Admission and parking is free. Donations will be accepted that evening with 100% of the donations collected and 25% of the proceeds from the Williams Concessions going to support the Lebanon VA Hospital. Summer Writers Experience exposes teens to creative life

From E-town NOW Throughout the summer, Elizabethtown College’s Bowers Writers House provides an opportunity for teens, who have a thirst for writing and creativity, to join in conversations with those whose vocation and avocation center on just that. Jesse Waters, Writers House director, assembled professional writers in a variety of genre to take part in the Summer Writers Experience—free, casual craft talks and workshops that offer “14 to 17 year olds a creative outlet and interesting activities.” Teens, who are exploring the creative world and might be considering their educational future, can interact with published writers to hear their stories[Read more...]

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Downtown Summer Lunch series underway

The 2015 edition of the Thursday summer lunch series on the square is underway.  Some events will be held on the square and some in the Rita’s parking lot.  Every Thursday until the end of July, the series will be held either on the square or near Rita’s.  Each event will include lunch, live music, and activities for children. Book launch and Independence Day celebration

An official launching of the recently released photographic history book of Elizabethtown, Images of America: Elizabethtown, will be held in the Deike Auditorium of the Masonic Village Freemason Cultural Center on Sunday July 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The program includes a celebration of the history of Elizabethtown and the community in general, all within the context of an Independence Day celebration.  Included in the program are several speakers and presentations. as well as, musical performances.  The book is part of a community series from Arcadia Publishing Company in Charleston, South Carolina.  The author, Jean-Paul Benowitz, is a[Read more...]

Elizabethtown Area High School Career and Technical School students honored at award ceremony

June 8, 2015- Ten Elizabethtown Area High School seniors were recently honored by the Lancaster County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) at its Certificate and Awards Ceremonies. Programs were held at each campus (Brownstown, Mount Joy and Willow Street) to salute outstanding graduating seniors for their performance in their respective program. As part of the special evening, Elizabethtown Area High School senior Sunni Criste was named LCCTC valedictorian. Here is Dave Terrell’s latest piece in the Clyde Fitch Report.  It offers an insight into the irrationality of public policy with a personal touch.  The other humanistic alternative to a nursing home is home health care services. Home health was squeezed into partial submission by Medicare reimbursement policy over a decade ago.  The option which has remained in tact is state funded medical assistance for skilled nursing care, and it has become the default choice, even though it is delivered with disproportionate economic and human costs.
