E-town police seize marijuana, arrest borough man

From Chronicling Elizabethtown, March 30, 2015 Elizabethtown police arrested a borough man today for allegedly dealing marijuana and other drugs from his home in the 300 block of North Market Street. Police charged Samual J. Schlenbaker with three counts of felony possession to deliver, one count of criminal use of a communication facility and 59 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In a news release, police said they received information on March 14 about a person dealing a large amounts of illegal narcotics at an address in the 300 block of North Market Street. Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984. Iddy Biddy Soccer              GEARS will offer an Iddy Biddy Soccer Program for ages 3-5. Coaches will teach basic soccer skills such as dribbling, passing and trapping. Participants will become familiar with the game of soccer. Emphasis will also be placed on social skills. Fee includes a t-shirt. This instructional program will be held on Saturdays, September 13-October 18 April 11-May 23 from 9-10 am (Class A) and 10-11 am (Class B) at the Fairview Elementary Soccer Fields, 8853 Elizabethtown Road, Elizabethtown. EAHS lacrosse teams to support the Wounded Warrior Project

March 30, 2015- The Elizabethtown Area High School boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams are joining forces this season to play for a cause. The week of April 13-17 has been dubbed “Assisting Our Defenders” week. To help raise awareness and support of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), the Bears and Lady Bears will take to Jane Hoover Field to compete against league rivals Warwick, Manheim Township and Lampeter-Strasburg High Schools. The teams decided on the Wounded Warrior Project because of the core values and principals of the organization. War vets, Vietnamese students, Fulbright Scholar discuss relationships

Forty years after the fall of Saigon and the effective end of the Vietnam War, Elizabethtown College takes a look at how Americans and Vietnamese see one another. “The Fall of Saigon: 40 Years Later” takes place from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, April 29, in the College’s KAV in Brossman Commons. The event features presentations by Vietnam vets and current Vietnamese students at Elizabethtown College and is supplemented with a Skype conversation with Dr. Peggy McFarland who is on a Fulbright Fellowship in Vietnam this semester. The program, sponsored by College’s Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking, is free.

Elizabethtown Alumna Wins Special PA House Election

Special by Donna Talarico from E-town NOW At 26 years old, Elizabethtown College business administration graduate Martina White ’10 will serve her Northeast Philadelphia constituents in Harrisburg. Earning more than 56 percent of votes, she won Tuesday’s special election for a vacant seat in the 170thDistrict; the opening was a result of Rep. Brendan Boyle heading to the U.S. House. EAHS students inducted into National Honor Society

March 26, 2015- Elizabethtown Area High School recently inducted 47 students into its T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. It recognizes the outstanding students of Elizabethtown Area High School who have exhibited the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Talented singers selected to prestigious choral ensemble

March 17, 2014- Four students from Elizabethtown Area High School were chosen to the 2015 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region V Chorus ensemble. Selection to the prestigious group was highly competitive and based on student auditions at the District 7 music festival held in January. Representing EAHS were senior Karlee Grudi (soprano 2), sophomore Guenaelle Moerth (soprano 2), junior Nicole Faiola (alto 2), sophomore Dean McBride (bass 2). The festival was held at Wilson High School under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Jennifer Kelley of Lafayette College. Grudi and Faiola are two-time participants at the regional level.
