EAHS February Students of the Month Named

February 17, 2015- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Katherine Suchanec and Derek Flick were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s Students of Month for February. Suchanec and Flick were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities. Suchanec, daughter of Barbara Suchanec of Elizabethtown and John Suchanec of Lancaster, has excelled in the classroom earning membership into the prestigious National Honor Society where she serves as vice president. We have lived with Islamic violence in the contemporary world for some time now.  We have also lived with television analysts offering their take on the etiology of that violence. Three universes of content can be found in their causal narratives.  For the most part these analysts are informed people: some are scholars, some are ideologues, and some are pundits. Students place in computer programming competition

February 12, 2015- Two Elizabethtown Area High School teams recently competed at the 31st annual Harrisburg Area Community College Computer Programming Competition. The two-person team of seniors Aaron Becker and Corby Rider had a strong showing placing fourth out of a field of 21 teams. Becker and Rider were pitted against not only their fellow student programmers representing twelve schools but also the clock. They had two hours to design and implement a solution to up to six problems. The event showcased the students’ knowledge of various computer science and programming concepts. Elizabethtown Area Middle School holds spelling bee

February 12, 2015- Elizabethtown Area Middle School recently held its 2015 spelling bee. The winner of the Bee was eighth grader Mandy Franz. With her victory, Franz is eligible to compete in the Lancaster Newspapers Regional Spelling Bee. The runner up was eighth grader Nat McCloud. Other participants included eighth graders Abby Alspaugh, Alexander Caylor and Ryan Minnich, as well as seventh graders Samuel Becker, Sarena Brown, Adam Evans, Dominic Gomez, Sydney Gunther, Alex Long, Ethan Lown, Victoria Smith, Andrew Telenko, Wills Troutman and Winston Williams. Local leaders to take part in charity basketball game for the GEARS Summer Playground program

February 10, 2015- The Elizabethtown Area School District and GEARS are teaming up to support the GEARS Summer Playground Program. Now in its third year, the charity game has netted over $3,000 for local programs. This year’s contest is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Daubert Gymnasium (Elizabethtown Area High School). Bainbridge Elementary marks 100 days of school

February 10, 2015- Bainbridge Elementary School recently observed the 100th day of school. The festive celebration included a school-wide story time with principal Greg Kiehl; classroom counting exercises; and as the highlight, students, faculty and staff dressing as if they were one hundred years old. In the classroom, teachers worked with students on the mathematical concepts of counting by tens, fives and ones, sorting and patterns while also developing place value concepts.
