Senior Center activities week of March 5

  Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984. 2015 3rd Annual Beans and Brews March 13th

Beans and Brew is one of MSIB’s (Market Street Improving Business) nine signature events introduced in the last two years.  This is the 3rd Annual Beans and Brews.  Beans and Brew is a chili making contest and beer brewing contest within a general community gathering.  The organizers are expecting over 10 chili entries and 20 brewers serving over 40 different beer varieties.  It is unique to have these two great tastes combined into one event and the event has gained some notoriety regionally.  It is also a great opportunity for aspiring brewers to put their beers to the test. Elizabethtown College Color Classic

On Sunday, April 19, the Elizabethtown College Class of 2017 Student Senate, in partnership with the Joshua Group, will be hosting the 2015 Color Classic. Come walk, run, or frolic your way around the Elizabethtown College Campus for this colorful 5K run, very similarly designed as other color runs. Fifty percent of the proceeds from this run will be donated to the Joshua Group, an organization located in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg, PA. Don Kraybill announces June retirement

This article originally appeared in E-town NOW Donald B. “Don” Kraybill, known worldwide as the foremost expert on Amish culture is teaching his last classes at Elizabethtown College this semester. Kraybill retires at the end of June. The Distinguished College Professor and Senior Fellow at the College’s Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies teaches in the Sociology and Religious Studies departments. He will give his last major address at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20 at the College’s Scholarship and Creative Arts Days. EAHS announces Mini-THON and Community Hours Light of Hope Ceremony

February 23, 2015- Elizabethtown Area High School’s Mini-THON’s co-chairs, Anya Goldsmith and John Hernley, are pleased to announce that Elizabethtown Area High School is holding their fourth annual student-run Mini-THON on Friday Mar. 20 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning. Mini-THON is a twelve-hour event patterned after Penn State’s THON in which approximately 350 high school student dancers will remain on their feet for the entire twelve hours. All of the money raised through the Elizabethtown Area High School Mini-THON will go to support the Four Diamonds, an organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer. Discover Dance & Tap Class  Class is designed to encourage younger children in a fun way to express themselves through several dance disciplines (ballet, jazz & creative movement). Dancers will develop body awareness, gross motor skills, rhythm and flexibility. Ages 3-5. Level 1 (Beginner) is on Mondays, March 9-April 27 from 6:10-6:55 pm with Level 2 (Intermediate) from 5-5:45 pm. Optional tap class before or after Level 1 & 2. EAHS students place in regional STEM competition

February 23, 2015- A team of students from Elizabethtown Area High School recently took third place in the first annual regional Governor’s JOBS1st PA STEM Competition. The bronze-medal winning team was comprised of seniors Joanna Redcay, Joey Betz, Corby Rider, Muzzy Islam and Sam McMinn STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. The corresponding competition was open to all high school students throughout the Commonwealth. EAHS Students Perform at Prestigious Band Festival

February 19, 2015- Elizabethtown Area School District band students Kyra Buettner, Nicole Faiola and Stacie Savoca recently took part in the prestigious 2015 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 7 Band Festival held at Conestoga Valley High School in January. Dr. Emily Threinen, professor of music at Temple University conducted the ensemble of about 130 talented high school musicians. Selection to the District 7 band is highly competitive involving talented student musicians from schools located in central Pennsylvania (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties).
