The Elizabethtown Journal in cooperation with 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue will periodically be announcing and profiling dogs in need of a home. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit dog foster network dedicated to saving the lives of neglected, unwanted, injured, abused, and forgotten dogs. 2nd Chance provides foster homes for every rescued dog until a forever home is found. 2nd Chance 4 Life is a volunteer organization solely supported by donors. EAMS to perform light-hearted thriller Mystery on 13th Street

April 17, 2014- The students of Elizabethtown Area Middle School will present the light-hearted thriller Mystery on 13th Street on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2. Show times on both evenings will be 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, 600 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. In the play, young members of a community club solicit the town’s eccentric inventor, Dr. VonDrugen, for help with a clean-up project at a local park. When they find themselves trapped in the house amid mysterious occurrences and disappearances, they wonder if Dr. VonDrugen could be a mad scientist turning children into cats.[Read more...]

April Students of the Month Named

April 17, 2014- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Emily Hess and Matthew Stephens were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for April. Hess and Stephens were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities. Hess is the daughter of Mark and Marcy Hess of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. She holds several leadership positions in the district including being co-editor for the high school’s literary magazine, president of the book club, and leader of the student bible study club. EAHS student places in math competition

April 16, 2014- Elizabethtown Area High School eleventh grader Reuben Zeiset placed at the Shippensburg University High School Mathematics competition. Competing against 57 students from thirteen area schools, Zeiset finished in second amongst his peers. The contest featured an hour-long exam in which contestants answered twenty questions. The math problems were of the advanced level and covered a wide variety of topics including Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Number Theory, Logic, Probability, and more. Zeiset answer fourteen of the twenty questions correctly. The average score for the participants was 8.4. Lebanaon Valley Bicycle Coalition Announces 2014 Round the Valley

The Lebanon Valley Bicycle Coalition has announced the resumption of their annual Round the Valley ride for 2014.  The ride will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Round the Valley 2014 is a partnership project of Lebanon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc.  Participants and sponsors have an opportunity to contribute to two great causes – safer, better bicycling in Lebanon County and providing support to Pennsylvania wounded warriors. Spring Vendor Craft Show Benefiting the SPCA

A vendor craft show will be held at the Elizabethtown Fire Hall on April 26.  The show will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Vendors will include direct sales companies as well as private crafters.  Among those attending will be Tastefully Simple, Perfectly Posh, Scentsy, Tupperware, Thirty One, and many more. Food, games and raffles will be available for all. All proceeds from the event will benefit the SPCA.
