Elizabethtown Journal tops 10,000 visits for the month of March

This past month, the number of visitors to the Elizabethtown Journal web site topped the 10,000 mark  for the first time.  In the past month, there were 10,247 visits to the site and 16,022 page views.  The calculation of these counts are conducted using a method that excludes trivial visits from the counts.  The counts exclude all identified spam and spider visits.  Spider refers to programs that automatically references web pages.  Spiders are used to identify pages for search engines.  The counts are calculated using the Word Press plug-in program, “Wass Up.”  There have been 27,540 visits since the beginning[Read more...]

Lady Bears visit with nationally ranked Penn State University women’s lacrosse team

March 26, 2014- The Elizabethtown Area High School Girls’ Lacrosse team recently met with the nationally ranked 2014 Penn State University Women’s Lacrosse team. Here they pose with members of the team and coaching staff outside the university’s weight facility following a hard-fought loss to State College. As the Nittany Lions guest of honor, the Lady Bears were able to tour the college facilities and experience what it is like to be a collegiate athlete.



Elizabethtown Area High School to host spring band concert

March 26, 2014- Please join the talented musicians of Elizabethtown Area High School for its annual Spring Band Concert on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  The concert will feature performances by Ursa Major (the EAHS jazz ensemble) and the Symphonic Band. Eggstravaganza  Come out and join the Easter Bunny for a free egg hunt for kids ages 12 and under on Saturday, April 12 at the Elizabethtown Park! Other activities include soccer kick, inflatable slide, arts and crafts, obstacle course, face painting, concession and more!   The activities will start at 10 am. Egg Hunts will be: 10:15 am (ages 2 & under), 10:30 am (ages 3-6), 10:45 am (ages 7-9) and 11 am (ages 10-12). There will be an adult egg hunt at 12 pm. Etown April and May concerts showcase guest musicians, students, faculty

Elizabethtown College will be awash in music as the warmth of spring melts away winter. Helping increase the temperatures is pianist Dan Immel’s “The Devil’s Vertigo.” The concert, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the College’s Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, is a diabolically and psychologically themed program that embarks on a pianistic journey into the emotional, spiritual and existential realms. The performance features music of Currier, Ligeti, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Palomo and Janacek. Immel is assistant professor of music at Kutztown University. EAHS girls win state bowling championship

The Elizabethtown Area High School girls’ bowling team defeated arch-rival Penn Manor 2-1 in a best-of-three title match to win the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Championship. Team members included Olivia Farwell, Lori Flowers, Kayla Halbleib, Madi Powers, Audrey Reisinger, Brittany Ritzman and Kristin Vuxta. The team was coached by Frank Telenko. In capturing gold, the Lady Bears defeated the eleven best teams from across the state. Elizabethtown secured their spot in the finals by being the top team in the preliminary rounds automatically qualifying them for the championship match.
