Air National Guard Band to Perform on July 4th  The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will present an exciting brand of concert band and popular music in concert on Thursday, July 4th at the Elizabethtown Park Amphitheater at 6 pm.   The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic was originally formed in 1942 in Rapid City, South Dakota as the 53rd Army Air Forces Band. Federal recognition was extended to the band in 1949. The band has experienced numerous name changes and reassignments over the years, more recently as the 553rd Air Force Band, Pennsylvania Air National Guard.[Read more...]

EAHS students set to release album of original songs

May 16, 2013- A group of students from Elizabethtown Area High School is gearing up to celebrate the release of a CD they produced in their Electronic Music class. The release party is set for Friday, May 24 from 6-8 p.m. in the high school lobby. The public is invited to attend the evening’s festivities. The CD is full of original student works across a variety of music genres. Students from five departments are involved in the production. The Senior Center can be contacted at 367-7984 and is located in the GEARS building. Thursday, May 23: 8:30-9:30am walking, 9am Sewing, 10:30am music w/Glenn Hough, 12:30 Pinochle, 1pm Bridge. Lunch will be: we will have a Back Porch BBQ. Friday, May 24: 8:30-9:30am walking, 9am All Day Bingo, 10am Bible Study, 5pm TGIF Party, please call for reservations. Benefit planned for E-town mom with colon cancer

From Chronicling Elizabethtown When I think about it, cancer has been around me almost all my life. But it wasn’t until recent years that it really hit home: my father-in-law had lung cancer and a childhood friend had a malignant brain tumor removed (his blog Thinking Clearly is a must read). And then in the space of a week this winter, a good friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, a college roommate’s dad died of pancreatic cancer and a local mom was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. Elizabethtown Area High School’s Morgan Gizzi wins Congressional Art Contest

May 14, 2013- Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) student Morgan Gizzi was recently announced the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Contest (CAC). At a reception held at Garden Spot Village, Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) honored Gizzi for her charcoal drawing titled In Loving Memory – Pipercub. As the winner, Gizzi will have her piece displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel hallway leading from the House office buildings into the Capitol in Washington, D.C.  Rapho Township Summer Playground                New this Summer! Under the direction of GEARS, Rapho Township will offer a 2013 Youth Summer Playground Program. Your child can have fun with other kids right in your own neighborhood park.  Trained program leaders will lead supervised, quality recreation activities. A look at rental properties in Elizabethtown

From CHRONICLING ELIZABETHTOWN When I worked for the former Elizabethtown Chronicle about 13 years ago, borough officials told me that Elizabethtown had the most rentals units in Lancaster County outside the City of Lancaster. I never delved into it, but in 2006 the borough enacted a rental property licensing and inspection program. It’s a great idea, and it’s one that is working effectively, according to Denny Landvater, former borough police chief who now oversees the inspection program.
