Harrisburg Animal Adoption Festival

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Each year, Best Friends Furever, Inc., http://bffpa.org, hosts the Petapalooza Pet Adoption Festival to find forever homes for the homeless pets in the Harrisburg and Central PA community. This free event, presented by Petco Foundation, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8 on the lawn at the PA United Church Center, 900 S. Arlington Ave., Harrisburg, PA, 17109.Petapalooza brings together several of the local animal shelter and rescue groups that will have homeless, adoptable animals onsite.  Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984. The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and The Lancaster County Office of Aging. Elizabethtown Bank Robbed

At approximately 3:24 p.m. on Wednesday a man robbed the Fulton Bank branch in the Kmart shopping center in Elizabethtown (Mt. Joy Township). The bank is located in the 1600 block of Market Street in Mount Joy Township.  The suspect walked into the bank and handed a teller a note saying that he was carrying a gun  and demanded money.  Police said the teller didn’t see a firearm. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Northwestern Regional Police officers and officers from other departments arrived only minutes later, but their was no sign of the suspect.[Read more...]



June Students of the Month Named

May 28, 2013- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Hannah Greider and Bryan Goody were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for June. Greider and Goody were honored by the service club for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities.Greider is the daughter of Kenneth and Cynthia Greider of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. She is active in various school activities and programs including miniTHON, student council, key club, and ski club. Train Station Update #29

Curb and sidewalk work, in addition to base repair of Wilson Avenue, will require parking restrictions on Wilson Avenue the week of May 28-31, 2013.  Flow of traffic on Wilson Avenue will continue, although traffic control measures will be taken around work areas.  Please use caution and plan for potential delays when accessing the station via Wilson Avenue during this time.  In addition to the existing train station parking lot, parking is available in a temporary lot on Masonic Drive.  These lots will remain open during the Wilson Avenue work.  Construction on the train station overflow parking lot and at[Read more...]

Unsung Hero Awards Presented to Local Students

  May 22, 2013—Elizabethtown Area High School students Rebecca Amsbaugh, Alice Greider, Courtney Lippold, and Nicholas Weidman were recently recognized at a small awards ceremony as the Elizabethtown Optimist Club’s 2013 Unsung Heroes. The awards recognized the students for quietly making an impact at their school and in the community. Young Authors Share Writings at East High Street Elementary

May 21, 2013- East High Street Elementary School recently celebrated the writings of its second graders by holding its annual Young Authors Tea. As part of the festivities, parents and family members of the students were invited to the school to listen to their child read his or her self-illustrated autobiography, as well as a collection of other short stories written throughout the year.   At the Tea, the students grabbed a quiet spot with their family and proudly shared their writing samples.
