Writer’s Group Will Hold Open Mike Reading May 10

The writer’s group that regularly meets at the Elizabethtown Public Library will be holding an open mike reading on Friday, May 10 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.  It will be held in the coffee shop area (Elizabethtown Coffee Company) of the Library.  Friday the tenth is the date for May’s Second Friday celebration.  The library, normally closed on Fridays is open in the evening for Second Fridays.  The readings include  poetry, short essays, short plays, and other writings. Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League              GEARS is accepting teams for its Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League.  League play will start on Sunday, June 2 and continue through the middle of August with 6:30 & 8 pm game times on Sundays, Tuesday & Thursday evenings at the E-town Community Park Softball Field (Mt. May 5 concert celebrates the 150th anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation: Concert features Elizabethtown College choirs and jazz band

Elizabethtown College Choirs and Jazz Band present “Crossing Over: Spirituals and Gospel Songs Celebrating the Emancipation Proclamation Sesquicentennial” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the college’s Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. The concert is free, but a free-will offering will be accepted to help support the ensembles’ May tour. The Community Chorus, Dolce Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Sine Nomine and Jazz Band perform spirituals, gospel songs and spirituals from the mid-1800s. The concert also features Brazilian music in honor of the Concert Choir and Jazz Band’s May tour of Salvador, Brazil.

EAMS and EAHS win big at Destination ImagiNation state competition

April 26, 2012— Four teams of students from Elizabethtown Area Middle School and one team from Elizabethtown Area High School recently placed first at the Pennsylvania Destination ImaginNation tournament qualifying them for the global finals to be held in Knoxville, TN later this spring. Destination ImagiNation is the largest creative problem-solving organization in the world. Participants solve various challenges using technical, theatrical, structural, improvisational, or scientific skills. It is designed to develop problem solving skills, teamwork, and creative thinking skills. E-town students perform in prestigious All-Eastern Honors ensembles

April 26, 2013— Elizabethtown Area High School students Alison Levosky and John Shank recently performed in the prestigious 2013 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Honors festival. Levosky and Shank joined more than 780 of the most musically talented high school students in the eastern region of the United States. The eastern region included students from Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Europe. EAHS to Present “Back to the Fifties” Dinner Theater

April 26, 2013- Elizabethtown Area High School’s Theater Arts Club will present its fourth annual dinner theater and musical revue, “Back to the Fifties” on Friday, May 17. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria followed by a musical revue featuring songs made popular in the 1950’s beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m. The menu will include a Fifties themed picnic with hamburgers with all the fixings, hot dogs, baked beans, French fries, assorted beverages and a “make your own sundae bar”. 3000 Miles For Peace Fundraiser Will Honor 19-Year-Old Elizabethtown Resident Paul Ziegler, Killed In Bicycling Accident

April 25, 2013- Elizabethown Area School District students Courtney Ingold, Kara Mueser, Allyssa Molloy and Loren Shipe were recently recognized as the March Do the Right Thing award-winners. The Do The Right Thing program recognizes students in the Elizabethtown community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude, or outstanding efforts. The program provides a way to recognize good deeds and reinforce exemplary behavior. Redman Eye Care was the program’s sponsor for February. New Playwrights Fest presents original scripts by Elizabethtown College students

Elizabethtown College playwriting students present original scripts April 25 and 26 during E-town New Playwrights Fest. Both nights, sponsored the the Department of Fine and Performing Art, Theatre Division, feature two unique bills with different playwrights, actors and directors. The events take place at 8 p.m. in the Tempest Theatre and are open to the public, but tickets are required.
