Senior Center Activities Week of December 6

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and The Lancaster County Office of Aging. Local Actress Lands Role in A Swingin’ Christmas at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre

Averie Snader from Elizabethtown has landed a role in A Swingin’ Christmas at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre opening November 15.  She was most recently seen playing the part of Bielke in The National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof.  Snader is a 5th grader at Bear Creek Elementary in the Elizabethtown School District. This is her. She is also a dancer at E-Dance Center and Viktor Yeliohin’s International Ballet Academy. Holiday Music at College

  Tudor Choir and Wheatland Chorale at Leffler Tudor Choir vocal chamber ensemble, famed for its interpretation of New England shape note carols and hymns, and Lancaster, Pa.’s, Wheatland Chorale, one of Pennsylvania’s premier choral ensembles, perform holiday selections at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, on stage at Leffler Chapel and Performance Center at Elizabethtown College. A carol sing-along, led by both choirs, wraps the perfect bow around the evening’s festivities. The E-town performance is Tudor Choir’s only area concert this year. Interactive Holiday Train Display Starts Soon

The Train Guys of Elizabethtown, PA are putting finishing touches on the Interactive Holiday Train Display which will open to the public on Saturday, December 1, 2012! Not only is this Train Display amazing in its design and interactive fun, but every dollar raised goes to support Elizabethtown Public Library for the benefit of the Greater Elizabethtown Area. Mill Road and Bainbridge Elementary Schools Hold Thanksgiving Food Drives

November 20, 2012- An amazing 1,784 canned food items were donated by Mill Road Elementary School’s students, faculty, and staff as part of a school-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by the PTO. Held Nov. 5-15, the food drive will benefit numerous families in need at the school as well as the Elizabethtown Food Pantry. Are foreign students a source of cheap labor?

The federal government’s Summer Work Travel program “provides foreign students with an opportunity to live and work in the United States during their summer vacation from college or university to experience and to be exposed to the people and way of life in the United States” [1]. But the foreign students who came under the program last year and worked in Hershey’s chocolate plant claimed that they were forced to work for minimal wages under physically demanding conditions. Local Veterans Remembered During the Holidays

[November 15, 2012] – On Saturday December, 15th, 2012 members of the Elizabethtown community will gather together to honor veterans during the holiday season as part of the annual Wreaths Across America Day. Job’s Daughters Bethel 15 of Elizabethtown is seeking wreath sponsorships to honor veterans laid to rest in Elizabethtown cemeteries. Wreaths may be sponsored for a $15.00 tax deductible donation, and sponsorships are still available through November 26, 2012. Over 400 wreaths are needed to represent all veterans laid to rest in Elizabethtown area. All wreaths sponsored will be delivered directly to the cemetery. Wreaths may be sponsored[Read more...]



Elizabethtown Student Honored For ‘Doing The Right Thing’

November 15, 2012- Elizabethtown Area School District student Hannah Griffie was recently recognized as a “Do the Right Thing” award-winner for the month of November. The program recognizes students in the Elizabethtown community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude, or outstanding efforts. The program provides a way to recognize good deeds and reinforce exemplary behavior. Griffie, a third grader at Bainbridge Elementary School, received the award for her willingness and enthusiasm to learn sign language and assist a hearing impaired student to communicate with other students.
