ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Grab your Halloween costume once again and head over to Elizabethtown College for our Fourth Annual Trick or Treat! The Elizabethtown College Student Senate has joined other student groups on campus to celebrate this fall holiday. On Monday, October 29, 2012, the walkways of Elizabethtown College will be lit up to lead local community children and families to the candy stops. Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Rooster St Provisions: A New Business Opens on High Street

A new business, Rooster St Provisions, has just opened in Elizabethtown. It is based on an interesting concept. One that is most likely unfamiliar to most. It began with an idea conceived by a young couple, Tony and Kristina Page. Tony has been in the restaurant industry for 13 years; working in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Bethlehem, New York, and South Carolina. Kristina has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Kutztown University. She has also worked in the food industry in the recent past. Two E-town Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

October 19, 2012- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Maura Fertich and Alison Levosky are among 16,000 semifinalists in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Competition. This prestigious designation placed them in the top 1% of all U.S. high school seniors and among the highest scoring entrants in the Commonwealth. Fertich is the daughter of Scot and Nance Fertich of Elizabethtown. Levosky is the daughter of Thomas and Patricia Levosky of Elizabethtown. Fertich and Levosky will now try to attain finalist status. Finalists will vie for some 8,400 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $36 million, that will be offered in the spring.[Read more...]

Mock Interviews Held at Elizabethtown Area High School

October 19, 2012- Elizabethtown Area High School sophomores recently sharpened their interview skills by taking part in the school’s Mock Interview Day with more than 30 local business and community leaders. The simulation provided a taste of the real world and is an important piece of the school’s Pathways Program. Occurring in a non-threatening environment, the experience helped the students to better understand the process of applying and interviewing for a job. The students spent nearly fifteen minutes being interviewed by one of the many volunteers. Elizabethtown Area School District To Honor Local Veterans

October 19, 2012- The Elizabethtown Area School District will hold a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9 to honor our community’s military veterans. All veterans from the greater-Elizabethtown area are invited to take part in the celebration that will begin at 10:45 a.m. at Elizabethtown Area High School (600 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022). 3rd Annual Fall Festival              Holiday fun for the whole family!  GEARS will be hosting the 3rd  Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 27 from 10 am-4 pm at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds. The Festival is a family-friendly event that features a fabulous array of entertainment, food, crafts, vendors and children’s activities including pony rides, barrel train rides, face painting, balloon animals, caricatures, inflatable play areas, a haunted barn, a non-and scary hayride. Veteran turned anti-war activist speaks on making change

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA — After serving a tour of duty in Iraq, Matthew Southworth, the 2012 Elizabethtown College Alumni Peace Fellow, became an anti-war activist. He is now Washington, D.C., chapter president of the Iraq Veterans Against the War and serves on the board of directors for Veterans for Peace. Southworth will speak on “A More Peaceful Future: Making Change in an Election Year” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Bucher Meetinghouse at Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. Zombie Fun for Everyone

Zombies and humans are invited to attend ZombiE-town on Friday, October 19 at Elizabethtown Public Library. ZombiE-town is a family friendly zombie event for people ages 10 and up; children under 14 must have an adult with them. This event will include a variety of activities and many awards as well as the opportunity to “give yourself away” through a blood drive held by the Central PA Blood Bank from 2-7pm.
