Due to severe weather, the Leffler Memorial Lecture, featuring Marian Wright Edelman and originally scheduled Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Leffler Chapel & Performance Center, has been postponed. The Leffler Lecture will be rescheduled for a future date.

Borough declares disaster emergency thanks to Hurricane Sandy

Monday, October 29, 2012–(from Chronicling Elizabethtown) Elizabethtown Mayor Chuck Mummert declared a disaster emergency for the borough today as Hurrice Sandy bore down on Pennsylvania. Mummert issued the declaration after borough officials consulted with the local Emergency Management Agency, the police department, the Elizabethtown Fire Department and the Elizabethtown Area Water Authority. AARP Driver Safety Refresher Program             GEARS is hosting a 4-hour refresher course for people who have previously taken the eight-hour 55 Alive course.  This course will fulfill requirements for a continuing insurance discount from any auto insurer doing business in PA.  All participants MUST bring evidence of previous course completion to receive certificate.  Participants must bring a valid PA driver’s license.  Ages 50+.  Class is on Wednesday, November 28 from 2-6 pm at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center (70 South Poplar Street, Elizabethtown).  Tom Mulleavy will instruct the class. Senior Center Activities Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Elizabethtown College students showcase famed Broadway tunes Join students from the Elizabethtown College Bachelor of Arts in Music Club as they sing, dance and play their way through a night of Broadway tunes. Pre-School Classes KinderTots is for age 2.  This program is designed to develop gross motor skills, movement creativity, physical development and body awareness, while learning numbers, colors, shapes and songs.  The class will take place Tuesdays from 5:45-6:15 pm.  Fee for the class is $67 for GEARS members and $74 for non-members. KinderDance is for ages 3-6.  This class is a developmental dance/movement and fitness program taught on 3 levels, teaching the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and creative movement while blending educational concepts.
