Senior Center Activities Week of October 4

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Police arrest 17, seize drugs, guns and money

September 26, 2012–Police in Elizabethtown seized drugs and guns when they arrested 17 people today, the culmination of a six-month undercover investigation. Officers, troopers and agents from the Elizabethtown Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Lancaster County Sherriff’s Department, Berks County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Pennsylvania State Parole and U.S. Marshalls Task Force executed twenty felony and misdemeanor warrants in the early morning hours Wednesday. Seventeen of the warrants were for felony possession with intent to deliver illegal drugs and one was a felony retail theft charge. McDonalds of Elizabethtown Owners Pledge $25,000 to Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign

September 26, 2012- The Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation’s Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign received a boost recently when Andy and Dorothy Cheung, owners/operators of McDonalds in Elizabethtown made a $25,000 pledge. The campaign, designed to raise funds for improvements to the local school district’s Jane Hoover Field, has now raised nearly $900,000. “Dorothy and I have always believed in giving back to the local community,” said A.  BEARS Youth Basketball Sign-up              GEARS will be accepting registration for girls and boys in grades 1-9 for the BEARS Youth Basketball Program.  Players will participate in practices and games from late-November through mid-February.  Participation levels are grades 1 & 2 (instructional), grades 3 & 4, grades 5 & 6 and grades 7-9. Draft day for girls in grades 3-9 is Monday, November 19 from 7-8:15 pm. EAHS To Present Arthur Miller Classic, “The Crucible”

September 26, 2012- This October, Elizabethtown Area High School will present the American theater classic “The Crucible” for the community. The production will be performed Thursday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. There will also be an afternoon matinee on Saturday at 1 p.m. Please note there is no Friday evening performance. “The Crucible” is considered to be one of American playwright Arthur Miller’s best works. Elizabethtown Area School District Plants Pinwheels for Peace

September 21, 2012- Elizabethtown Area School District students celebrated International Peace Day on Sept. 21 by “planting” hundreds of pinwheels on the campus grounds. Each pinwheel contained a special message of hope and peace and came in all different shapes, colors, and sizes. The initiative was part of the district’s participation in the Pinwheels for Peace Project. Pinwheels for Peace is an international art and literacy program that is non-political but allows students to express through art their feelings about what is going on in the world and in their lives. Cheerleaders and Football Raise Money for Field Improvements

September 21, 2012- Elizabethtown Area High School’s cheerleading squad and football team, along with the junior high football team, joined forces to collect $825 for the Investing In Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign. On Sept. 14, honorary team captain Cassie Telencio joined the junior high players and varsity cheerleaders to present a check prior to kickoff of the varsity football game versus Lower Dauphin High School. The campaign is raising money to pay for improvements to the school district’s Jane Hoover Field including the installation of artificial turf.
