Team Infinitum places third at national finals in F1 in Schools program

June 15, 2012— Team Infinitum from Elizabethtown Area School District placed third at the F1 in Schools USA National Finals in May. Team Infinitum is made up of tenth grader Brian Rupp, and eighth graders Sarah Sellers and Makayla Schaar. Rupp is the team manager and design engineer. Sellers is the resource manager and driver while Schaar is the graphic designer and manufacturing engineer. Since placing as the Grand Champions at the F1 in Schools PA Regional Finals in March, Team Infinitum redesigned and rebuilt their model car for the national competition. Senior Center Activities Week of June 21

Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984.  The Elizabethtown Senior Center is a service of GEARS and the Lancaster County Office of Aging.   Thursday, June 21: 8:30-9:30am walking, 9am Quilting and pancakes, 9:30am Exercise w/Sherry, 10:30am Talent Show, 12:30 Pinochle, 1pm Bridge. EAHS Holds Commencement Program for the Class of 2012   June 13, 2012—Elizabethtown Area High School held its commencement ceremony for the Class of 2012 on June 11 at LCBC. Amidst much fanfare, valedictorian Emily Hornung and salutatorian Ian Kowalok led the 304 graduating seniors into the packed auditorium where they were greeted by overwhelming applause from family, friends, faculty, and community members. Superintendent Michele Balliet welcomed the more than 2,000 guests in attendance. Elizabethtown Area Middle School holds awards assembly March 13, 2012— Elizabethtown Area Middle School held an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 12 to honor a select group of seventh and eighth graders for their academic achievement.  MOVIES IN THE PARK              GEARS and Richard Knowlton Dental Associates presents Movies In The Park.  Bring the family out and experience the drive-in theater atmosphere without the car!  Movies begin at dusk at the Elizabethtown Community Park Amphitheater, Spruce and Washington Streets.  No admission fee.  Refreshments will be sold. The editors of EJ have noticed, with their usual alacrity, that the restaurant scene in Elizabethtown has changed significantly of late. Burger King was closed for a while–is it shuttered permanently? That would be a big blow. For a fast food fix, the eds must now retire to McDs, Wendy’s and Taco Bell. All are admittedly fine establishments, especially Taco Bell, which succeeds in imparting intrigue to the lowly taco by insisting that that its recipe uses “mystery meat.” Of course, they cannot divulge the details—or else competitors will pounce with even cheaper tacos! Brett Etter from Elizabethtown Completes Air Force Training

Airman First Class Brett A. Etter, a native of Elizabethtown and a 2008 graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School  graduated from Air Force Basic Military Training in April of 2012.  The training consisted of an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, basic warfare principles and skills. During basic training at Lackland Air Force base in Texas, Etter was awarded the position of Squad Leader, and received the Expert Marksmanship ribbon and the Thunderbolt certificate. 2012 Camp Ladybug  GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, are proud to sponsor this year’s Camp Ladybug.  Camp Ladybug is also sponsored by Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club, Crystal Pure Water, Jeans for Cause and Elizabethtown Rotary. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 18-July 27 (excluding July 4) from 9 am to 12 noon at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion #5. Camp is free. This program is a camp for individuals that may be mentally delayed and/or physically challenged of all ages. “Lateral e”, a new perspective on the 2011 e-dance show opens at the e-dance center

“Lateral e”, a New Perspective on the 2011 E-dance Show” opened June 1 and will run through June 9. The exhibition features paintings and drawing by Justin Lorenzen. Lateral e is a collection of images from the 2011 e-dance show. The images are based on photographs taken from the wings, or laterally. It is comprised of fifteen oil paintings and 30 mixed-media drawings of dancers. All of the work was created over the past year, from 2011 – 2012. The show is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.[Read more...]
