Students Hold Fundraiser to Benefit Local Flood Victims

October 31, 2011— A team of students from Elizabethtown Area Middle School recently collected over $1,119 for the American Red Cross’s food relief efforts in Lancaster County. The students raised the money by selling paper flowers for a wall display during homeroom and BEAR time at the school. The fundraising initiative, titled Growing a Garden of Caring, encouraged fellow students and faculty members to purchase flowers for $0.50. EAHS Orchestra to Perform Pops Concert

October 31, 2011— The Elizabethtown Area High School Orchestra is turning off the iPod and pulling out the vinyl for the annual Pops Concert on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. The Music Rewind concert will include a number of classic hits from past decades including artists like Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones. High school students can text anonymous tips to cops

From Chronicling Elizabethtown Wednesday, October 19, 2011–An anonymous tip texted via cellphone to Elizabethtown School Resource Officer Rick Farnsler earlier this school year might have saved a life. Through a program Farnsler set up, an Elizabethtown High School student texted that another student might be suicidal. Upon receiving the text, Farnsler communicated anonymously with the first student and was able to get the name of the second student. He then contacted school officials, who set in motion crisis intervention to help the second student. Flooding damage to borough infrastructure estimated at $350K

From Chronicling Elizabethtown Monday, October 24, 2011–Elizabethtown’s infrastructure, including bridges and its wastewater treatment plant, sustained $350,000 in damage from the flooding in early September, according to estimates from the borough administration. One bridge, on Chestnut Street behind the community park’s softball field, remains closed because the sidewalk and road collapsed. Estimates for its repair are $70,728. The other bridges are open for traffic, but the South Poplar Street bridge has erosion under the roadbed, curb and sidewalk on the southeast side (damage estimates, $27,514); the West Bainbridge Street bridge is unsafe for pedestrians because of a major washout on[Read more...]



EAHS band to present “Bands in Review” concert

October 24, 2011— The Elizabethtown Area High School marching band will hold its 2011 “Bands in Review” concert on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 in the high school auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. $15,000 Pledged By Big E Booster Club to the Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign

October 21, 2011— The Big E Booster Club recently pledged $15,000 to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation’s Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign. The campaign has a goal of $3,700,000 and was launched to improve the Elizabethtown Area School District’s outdoor athletic fields. Presenting the check from the Big E Booster Club were Duane Hernley, Lucy Maghan, and Jody Eisenbise. Accepting the check on behalf of the campaign was Michele Balliet, superintendent of schools and member of the campaign planning team.
