August 19, 2011— The Elizabethtown Boys Club recently pledged $50,000 to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation’s Investing in Our Children, Our Community, Our Future Capital Campaign. The campaign has a goal of $3,700,000 and was launched to improve the Elizabethtown Area School District’s outdoor athletic fields. Presenting the check were John Fosnot, Teresa Lonardi, and Paula Rehrer. Accepting the check on behalf of the campaign were Kevin Dolan and Joseph Murphy, campaign chairs. The traffic project at High Street and Market Street was a marvel of speed and efficiency. Couple of days ago, as I navigated a left turn from High on to West Market Street in the morning, I noted that the traffic lights were switched off, road workers were waving cars through, and the work of adding left-turn lanes on both sides of High Street had just begun. “Ah,” I thought, “how many days will this this last? August 18, 2011— Former Elizabethtown Area High School girls basketball star Janelle Garber is returning to the program to lead the Bears as their new head coach. Garber, a 2006 graduate of Elizabethtown, finished her career as E-town’s second all-time leading scorer (boys and girls) netting 1,190 points. August 2011– Derry Preschool will be hosting its inaugural golf tournament at Felicita Golf Course on Monday September 26th, 2011. The funds brought in by this outing will be used to offset the rising costs of tuition, keeping it affordable for area families. Registration and the driving range will be open at 7 AM, followed by an 8:30 AM shotgun start. “Tees for Tots” is a scramble format golf tournament followed by a cookout on the Felicita Clubhouse Patio.
