From Chronicling Elizabethtown After at least 13 years of debate, discussion, design, redesign and more discussion and debate, the Elizabethtown Train Station was rededicated Wednesday, May 5. The station received a $9.3 million facelift thanks to funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) and planning from borough officials since the late 1990s. Because the station had already been designed, it was considered “shovel ready” when President Barack Obama signed ARRA, commonly known as the federal stimulus. May 16, 2011— The Ninja’s, a team of middle school students from Elizabethtown Area Middle School, has captured the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) USA F1 In Schools National Championship. The national championship team consisted of Garrett Jenkins, team resource manager; Kalyssa Pottgeiser, design engineer and graphic designer; Brian McMinn, design engineer and manufacturing engineer; and Terry Bupp-Petersheim, faculty advisor. May 10, 2011 Five Elizabethtown Area High School students took home honors at the 58th North Museum Science and Engineering Fair held on the campus of Franklin and Marshall College. Award winners included Aaron Cake, Conrad Brendel, Alaina Herkelman, Andrew Kline, and Matthew Bushong. Cake won the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award and won first place in the Computer Science category. Brendel won the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Lancaster Chapter Award and second place in the Engineering: Electrical & Mechanical category. The first annual Kickin’ Into Summer race will take place on Sunday June 12 at 2:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Elizabethtown girls soccer program. Pre-registration is $20 for the 5k event and $25 for the 10k event. After May 29, registration fees will be $25 and $30, respectively. Awards will be made for overall male and female first place runners and for age category male and female first place runners.
