It’s done! E-town’s Amtrak station dedicated

From Chronicling Elizabethtown After at least 13 years of debate, discussion, design, redesign and more discussion and debate, the Elizabethtown Train Station was rededicated Wednesday, May 5. The station received a $9.3 million facelift thanks to funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) and planning from borough officials since the late 1990s. Because the station had already been designed, it was considered “shovel ready” when President Barack Obama signed ARRA, commonly known as the federal stimulus. Fairview Elementary School Closing its Doors

May 17, 2011— Fairview Elementary School will be closing its doors for the final time at the end of this school year. The Elizabethtown Area School District would like to invite students, faculty, parents, alumni, friends and the community at large to join in a special celebration of the school’s life and legacy as a public school in the Elizabethtown Area School District. (From the Lebanon Valley Bicycle Coalition aka Lebanon Valley Bicycle Club) Thousands of bicyclists participate in the Ride of Silence which is held annually on the third Wednesday in May. This ride commemorates bicyclists who have been killed or seriously injured in bike/motor vehicle crashes. To learn more, visit  www.rideofsilence.org. Elizabethtown College Theatre announces 2011-2012 season

Comedies headline this year’s stage productions Elizabethtown College Theatre recently announced its 2011-2012 season. Tickets for the season’s line up of comedies are $6 each. E-Town’s Ninja’s Racing Wins F1 In Schools National Championship

May 16, 2011— The Ninja’s, a team of middle school students from Elizabethtown Area Middle School, has captured the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) USA F1 In Schools National Championship. The national championship team consisted of Garrett Jenkins, team resource manager; Kalyssa Pottgeiser, design engineer and graphic designer; Brian McMinn, design engineer and manufacturing engineer; and Terry Bupp-Petersheim, faculty advisor. The team also was awarded the trophy for Fastest Car with an elapsed time of 1.101 second down the 80 foot track. E-town Students Take Home Awards in Local Science and Engineering Fair

May 10, 2011 Five Elizabethtown Area High School students took home honors at the 58th North Museum Science and Engineering Fair held on the campus of Franklin and Marshall College. Award winners included Aaron Cake, Conrad Brendel, Alaina Herkelman, Andrew Kline, and Matthew Bushong. Cake won the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award and won first place in the Computer Science category. Brendel won the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Lancaster Chapter Award and second place in the Engineering: Electrical & Mechanical category. Kickin’ Into Summer-5k Run/Walk and 10k Run

The first annual Kickin’ Into Summer race will take place on Sunday June 12 at 2:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Elizabethtown girls soccer program. Pre-registration is $20 for the 5k event and $25 for the 10k event. After May 29, registration fees will be $25 and $30, respectively. Awards will be made for overall male and female first place runners and for age category male and female first place runners.
