Senior Center Activities Week of June 20

 Area seniors are invited to participate in any of the following programs held at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.  The Senior Center is located in the GEARS Community Center, Elizabethtown and is open Monday through Friday.  Call the center for more information about the activities or to make reservations at 367-7984. The Elizabethtown Area Senior Center is a service of GEARS and The Lancaster County Office of Aging. Thursday, June 20: 8:30-9:30am walking, 9am Sewing and pancakes, 9:30am morning stretch, 10am Craft Class, 11am Talent Show, 12:30 Pinochle, 1pm Bridge .  Lunch will be: tuna sandwich, cheese broccoli soup, fruit salad.[Read more...]

Writer’s Open Mike–2nd Friday

The Elizabethtown Library’s writer’s group will hold an open mike reading this Friday in conjunction with June’s Second Friday event. It will be held at the Giant grocery store in E-Town in the cafe area. The event will be held on every 2nd Friday of the month, beginning this Friday, June 12, 2013 from 5-7pm. Poetry, short essays, short plays may be read at this event.  The writers group meets every 3rd Thursday at the Library.  For more information contact Jahne at 717 405-2516.



Ancient Historical Figures to Come to Life in Living History Museum

June 10, 2013- Tutankhamun, Attila the Hun, Homer, Leonidas, Moses, Socrates, and many more notable historical figures of the ancient world recently graced the hallways of the Bear Creek School as part of the school’s Living History Museum. This year-end tradition brought learning to life as the students spent the day sharing information about their famous character of the past to their classmates, parents, teachers, and principals at the school. Class of 2013 Graduates from Elizabethtown Area High School

June 7, 2013- Clad in the traditional blue or white robes, the members of Elizabethtown Area High School’s Class of 2013 strode across the stage at LCBC to accept their diplomas on Thursday, June 6. The students – all 311 of them – were cheered on by more than 2,000 guests including parents, family members, teachers, administrators, and school board members who supported them along the way. Tri-County Pink Ribbon Bicycle Ride to Benefit the Young Survival Coalition

Team Cycling for Life, a local bicycle group organized to raise funds for the Young Survival Coalition, is announcing a charity bicycle ride event to take place on June 23. The Young Survival Coalition is a global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women diagnosed with breast cancer. The group offers resources, connections and outreach to young breast cancer survivors. The registration fee will be used as a donation to the Young Survival Coalition. 2013 Camp Ladybug  GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, are proud to sponsor this year’s Camp Ladybug.  Camp Ladybug is also sponsored by Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club, Crystal Pure Water, Jeans for Cause and Elizabethtown Rotary. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 17-July 26 (excluding July 4) from 9 am to 12 noon at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion #5. Camp is free. This program is a camp for individuals that may be mentally delayed and/or physically challenged of all ages. Mill Road Elementary students chalk the walk

June 4, 2013- Mill Road Elementary School third graders recently held a chalk walk to celebrate the completion of a reading challenge that began in March. Using bright, vibrant colors, the students from Tina Tuell’s class illustrated the children’s book – The Trouble with Chickens – on the blacktop behind the school using sidewalk chalk. The challenge began with Read Across America Day, a nationwide celebration of reading timed around Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
