Etown Community Cupboard recipient of Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs food drive

During the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB) Annual Conference in May, attendees donated more than 500 food and other non-perishable items to the Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown Borough, Lancaster County. The Boroughs Feeding Borough Families Community Food Drive was conceived by Elizabethtown Mayor Chuck Mummert. Mummert, who is also PSAB’s President, selected the theme of Service With Integrity as his year-long platform. As such, he wanted service to be a part of the conference agenda.   Yoga Classes Offered             Gentle/Beginner Yoga -  Learn fundamental yoga postures using safe alignment and modifications, slowly build strength, flexibility and balance. Elementary band concert May 25

May 18, 2017- The Bear Creek School band will take to the stage on Thursday, May 25 to present its annual spring concert. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bear Creek School and is free and open to the public. The concert will feature the fourth grade band, combined fifth and sixth grade band, and the Bear Creek School jazz band, as well as some smaller ensembles. 2017 Camp Ladybug  GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, are proud to sponsor this year’s Camp Ladybug. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 19-July 28 (excluding July 4) from 9 am to 12 noon at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion #5. Camp is free to GEARS members ($20 NM). This program is a camp for individuals that may be mentally delayed and/or physically challenged ages 6+.   AARP Driver Safety Refresher Program GEARS is hosting a 4-hour refresher course for people who have previously taken the eight-hour 55 Alive course.  This course will fulfill requirements for a continuing insurance discount from any auto insurer doing business in PA.  All participants MUST bring evidence of previous course completion to receive certificate.  Participants must bring a valid PA driver’s license.  Ages 50+.  Class is on Tuesday, May 24 from 2-6 pm at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center (70 South Poplar Street, Elizabethtown).  Art Rettew will instruct the class. EAHS students place second at state-wide SkillsUSA competition

  May 2, 2017- A team of students from Elizabethtown Area High School captured the silver medal in the state-wide SkillsUSA Health Knowledge Bowl held April 19-21 in Hershey. Competing in the Healthcare category, the award-winning students were seniors Emma Leaman, Mallory Gish, Amber Hershey, and Jacey Kauffman. The team qualified to compete at the state level based on their first place finish at the regional level in January. The competition tested the knowledge of contestants preparing for employment in the health occupation field. EASD Salutes Retiring Staff

May 2, 2017- Elizabethtown Area School District recently held its 2017 Staff Recognition and Retirement Banquet. In total, seven retiring faculty members and five retiring support professionals were saluted for their dedication and service to the district. The retirees were Vicki Diodato, Lori Dolan, Rhonda Friese, Kathryn Hall, Doris Lockard, Dr. Sherry Kreamer, Gayle Navratil, Linda Pickel, Joellen Placeway, Deborah Purcell, Constance Rhodes, and Shelley Smith. Combined they have over 302 years of service to the district. Diodato is retiring after 33 years in education, the last 29 with the Elizabethtown Area School District. E-Town takes on the nation’s best in prestigious We The People Competition

May 2, 2017- Elizabethtown Area High School recently represented Pennsylvania in the national We the People finals in our nation’s capital. The team qualified based on winning the state championship for an amazing seventh year in a row. The culminating event at the national finals involved the top schools from around the country competing on Capitol Hill in the Congressional committee rooms. Team members included Harrison Eichelberger, Brody Johnston, Conor Larison, Noah Myers, Aparna Paul, Kathryn Shenk, Kent Taylor, Scheck-Hambalah Traore, and Emily VanderMey.
