Air National Guard Band to Perform on July 4th  The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will present an exciting brand of concert band and popular music in concert on Thursday, July 4th at the Elizabethtown Park Amphitheater at 6 pm.   The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic was originally formed in 1942 in Rapid City, South Dakota as the 53rd Army Air Forces Band. Federal recognition was extended to the band in 1949. The band has experienced numerous name changes and reassignments over the years, more recently as the 553rd Air Force Band, Pennsylvania Air National Guard.[Read more...]

 Rapho Township Summer Playground                New this Summer! Under the direction of GEARS, Rapho Township will offer a 2013 Youth Summer Playground Program. Your child can have fun with other kids right in your own neighborhood park.  Trained program leaders will lead supervised, quality recreation activities. Elizabethtown Journal Releases Downtown Parking Report

The editor of the Elizabethtown Journal  in collaboration with faculty and students at Elizabethtown College has just completed research on public parking in the downtown area of Elizabethtown.  The results of the research have been published in the report, Public Parking Utilization in the Central Business District of Elizabethtown:  Its Relationship to Community Development.  The Report is free and available to the public in PDF format.  It can be accessed by clicking on the report title above. 2013 Camp Ladybug  GEARS, in cooperation with the Elizabethtown Area Services for Special Needs, are proud to sponsor this year’s Camp Ladybug.  Camp Ladybug is also sponsored by Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club, Crystal Pure Water, Jeans for Cause and Elizabethtown Rotary. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 17-July 26 (excluding July 4) from 9 am to 12 noon at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park Pavilion #5. Camp is free. This program is a camp for individuals that may be mentally delayed and/or physically challenged of all ages. Pennsylvania SPCA Expands Humane Law Enforcement to Lancaster County

Philadelphia, Pa – April 30, 2013)   The Pennsylvania SPCA is expanding its Humane Law Enforcement to serve Lancaster County affective April 29, announced Jerry Buckley, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. The storefront on the northeast corner of the square bordering High Street has witnessed a lot of changes in the past year.  First a bakery and ice cream shop secured the space.  After a few months, that business was replaced by Center Square Bakery.  In the search for a more appropriate space, Center Square Bakery relocated to a space on the northwest corner on the square.  The space was once again vacant, but not for long.  Mayita Hoyos moved her business, Mayita’s Boutique, into the space.  The Boutique was just named business of the month (for April) by Susquehanna Bank. [Read more...]



Writer’s Group Will Hold Open Mike Reading May 10

The writer’s group that regularly meets at the Elizabethtown Public Library will be holding an open mike reading on Friday, May 10 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.  It will be held in the coffee shop area (Elizabethtown Coffee Company) of the Library.  Friday the tenth is the date for May’s Second Friday celebration.  The library, normally closed on Fridays is open in the evening for Second Fridays.  The readings include  poetry, short essays, short plays, and other writings. Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League              GEARS is accepting teams for its Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League.  League play will start on Sunday, June 2 and continue through the middle of August with 6:30 & 8 pm game times on Sundays, Tuesday & Thursday evenings at the E-town Community Park Softball Field (Mt. May 5 concert celebrates the 150th anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation: Concert features Elizabethtown College choirs and jazz band

Elizabethtown College Choirs and Jazz Band present “Crossing Over: Spirituals and Gospel Songs Celebrating the Emancipation Proclamation Sesquicentennial” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the college’s Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. The concert is free, but a free-will offering will be accepted to help support the ensembles’ May tour. The Community Chorus, Dolce Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Sine Nomine and Jazz Band perform spirituals, gospel songs and spirituals from the mid-1800s. The concert also features Brazilian music in honor of the Concert Choir and Jazz Band’s May tour of Salvador, Brazil.



3000 Miles For Peace Fundraiser Will Honor 19-Year-Old Elizabethtown Resident Paul Ziegler, Killed In Bicycling Accident

   ELIZABETHTOWN (April 26) – Nineteen-year-old Elizabethtown resident Paul Ziegler had a dream to ride his bicycle across the country to raise money for world peace.  Tragically, he was killed in a bicycling accident last September before he had the chance to achieve his goal.  In honor of Paul, cyclists, runners and walkers from around the U.S. will unite this spring to carry out his dream, in an effort dubbed 3000 Miles for Peace (3KMP).  At 9 a.m. on May 4 dozens will gather at the Colebrook parking area of the Lancaster-Lebanon Rail Trail to ride, run and walk towards[Read more...]
