Middle school films Lip Dub to promote student empowerment and bully free schools

May 3, 2013- After months of planning and preparation, school unity took center stage as Elizabethtown Area Middle School promoted bully free schools and student empowerment by filming its very own Lip Dub on April 19. As a way of fostering a sense of inclusion and togetherness, all 600+ students in the school were part of the film. The project was tied to the school’s Olweus Bullying Prevention Initiative. The goal of the fun, creative school-wide project was to promote the benefits of positive peer-to-peer interactions. EAMS and EAHS win big at Destination ImagiNation state competition

April 26, 2012— Four teams of students from Elizabethtown Area Middle School and one team from Elizabethtown Area High School recently placed first at the Pennsylvania Destination ImaginNation tournament qualifying them for the global finals to be held in Knoxville, TN later this spring. Destination ImagiNation is the largest creative problem-solving organization in the world. Participants solve various challenges using technical, theatrical, structural, improvisational, or scientific skills. It is designed to develop problem solving skills, teamwork, and creative thinking skills. E-town students perform in prestigious All-Eastern Honors ensembles

April 26, 2013— Elizabethtown Area High School students Alison Levosky and John Shank recently performed in the prestigious 2013 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Honors festival. Levosky and Shank joined more than 780 of the most musically talented high school students in the eastern region of the United States. The eastern region included students from Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Europe. EAHS to Present “Back to the Fifties” Dinner Theater

April 26, 2013- Elizabethtown Area High School’s Theater Arts Club will present its fourth annual dinner theater and musical revue, “Back to the Fifties” on Friday, May 17. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria followed by a musical revue featuring songs made popular in the 1950’s beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m. The menu will include a Fifties themed picnic with hamburgers with all the fixings, hot dogs, baked beans, French fries, assorted beverages and a “make your own sundae bar”. Elizabethtown Students Honored For ‘Doing The Right Thing’

April 25, 2013- Elizabethown Area School District students Courtney Ingold, Kara Mueser, Allyssa Molloy and Loren Shipe were recently recognized as the March Do the Right Thing award-winners. The Do The Right Thing program recognizes students in the Elizabethtown community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude, or outstanding efforts. The program provides a way to recognize good deeds and reinforce exemplary behavior. Redman Eye Care was the program’s sponsor for February. E-town girls get first-ever lacrosse win

April 17, 2013- Elizabethtown Area High School’s girls lacrosse team made history on Monday, Apr. 9 when they claimed the program’s first-ever game win as an official Elizabethtown Area School District sport. In its inaugural season, the girls defeated Northern York High School by a score of 10-7. To celebrate the victory, the boys lacrosse team, led by coach Jeremy Adams, formed a receiving line to congratulate the Lady Bears for the historic win. EAHS students win big at local science fair

April 11, 2013— Fourteen Elizabethtown Area High School students competed in the North Museum Science Fair held in March. Eleventh grader Jenny Eurich took home one of the top honors when she was named senior champion for her Biochemistry project: Analysis of Ganglioside in Human Plasma. As senior champion, Eurich is being sponsored by the North Museum to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held in Phoenix, AZ in May Eight other students joined Eurich on the medal stand by claiming prizes in various categories. Community invited to spring band concert at Elizabethtown Area High School

April 10, 2012— Please join the talented musicians of Elizabethtown Area High School for its annual Spring Band Concert on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  The concert will feature performances by Ursa Major (the EAHS jazz ensemble) and the Symphonic Winds. The concert is free and open to the public so come and enjoy a wonderful array of music. Works included will be by composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, Rossano Galante, John Philip Sousa, Thelonious Monk and others.



EASD taps Linda Ahern as its new athletic director

April 10, 2013- The Elizabethtown Area School District named Linda Ahern its new athletic director at the April 9, 2013, meeting of the school directors. Ahern has been employed by the district since 1975. For the past 35 years, she has served as a school counselor at the secondary level. Ahern replaces Lauren Cavallaro, who resigned in March 2013. In addition to her knowledge of the school district, community, and its students, Ahern brings vast experience in the world of interscholastic athletics. Pennsylvania Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Foundation present check for $3,300 to Elizabethtown Area High School

April 9, 2013- The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) and Pennsylvania Bar Foundation (PBF) presented Elizabethtown Area High School’s three-time defending state champion We the People team with a check for $3,300 to help offset expense for the national finals. Presenting the check to James Sostack, Elizabethtown Area High School social studies teacher and We the People advisor, were Forest N. Myers, PBA President-Elect; Thomas G. Wilkinson, Jr., PBA President; and Tyrone A. Powell, PA Bar Foundation Vice President.
